Inspiration Re-Rolls Broken

So i found something interesting. If I am attempting to unlock a door/gate/chest, i have found that if i reroll using inspiration points, i will continue to get the same number as i received on the first inspiration roll. For instance, the roll to meet/beat is 15 and i roll a 10. I can reroll using inspiration points, so i do that. this time i rolled a 12. That is no good, so i use a second inspiration point. Same as the first, 12. So I chalk this up to bad luck. Except when i use 3 additional inspiration rolls, all equaling 12. This is WITH or WITHOUT Karmic Dice option set. And no, i do not have any dice roll mods.

Do you run any mods? If so, disable them all and test again.

Just because a mod isn't supposed to do something does not prevent a mod from bugging out the game's systems.

When I use inspiration it gets different rolls.

I have not noticed this.. of course there are times rolling the same result multiple times is just the way randomness works. I play a lot of tabletop and it happens with real dice as well. Of course it's frustrating to feel like you're wasting valuable resources.

As you yourself say, you roiled a 10 the first time and a 12 the second which means your whole post is nonsense since 10 and 12 are different numbers.

Using inspiration allows you to re-reroll, it doesnt guaranteee you a winning dice roll.

For me the inspirations rolls does give different results. Sometimes I win, sometimes don´t. Normally don´t burn more than or or two inspiration points. No matter what the result is.

I had 3 24's in a row trying to unlock a 25 chest, using up my remaining inspiration points before opening it on the last one. It did look a bit suss, and the karmic dice are proof that the rolls can be manipulated.

Just don't use the karmic dice option. It's just trying to influence so people don't get super mad when a bad roll happens many times in a row.

With the fact that larian isn't using a persistent random seed and you can get different rolls by save scumming people should just do that...

Personally I like it when rolls fail and the hilarity that ensues. It save scumming rolls just eliminates the risk taking for using things like inspiration and taking chances on a roll that might be difficult or even accidentially getting into a conversation using the wrong character leading it lol.. I love the chaos...

read it again.... the first roll, pre inspiration was a 10, the first inspiration roll was a 12 and the subsequent rolls were 12 as well.

Thinking about it, I didn't even check to see if the rolls were identical because there were 2 dice involved, so the results could have just been coincidentally totalling 24.

It still looked suss at the time tho.

I've also noticed a *lot* of duplicate rolls when using multiple inspiration dice in a row.

This is one of the things people seem to have trouble grasping. Previous rolls don't effect the new roll. Even Karmic dice uses a spread to decide if it will adjust the dice rolls so you don't get a continuous run of lower rolls. Of course it seems to do the same for higher rolls which is why I choose to not use them.

Yes, i understand the theory and typical implementation of an independent RNG system but what are the odds of, using this type of system, that you can get 4 identical rolls using inspiration points? The odd thing is, if i am using thief tools or disarm kits to unlock something, and I have the option to use a new tool other than inspiration, i can select to use another tool and the rolls are different. Only when using inspiration is this issue evident.
