Gloves of Dexterity BUG or Intended

I have Gloves of Dexterity - Makes your Dexterity 18.
So i re rolled stats gave myself 8 dexterity, wear the gloves get 18 dexterity.
when i lock pick i get a -1 to dexterity as if i wasn't wearing the gloves, i also get a +5 from the gloves.
Is this intended or a bug why do i get -1 if i have 18 dex not 8?

What is the ability score bonus from having 18 dex again? I cannot remember....

This also happens with the intellect helmet. I'm assuming it's not a bug, but rather just a case of the game applying base stats to checks before items and bonuses.

Does it include proficiency bonus for the dex skills while wearing the gloves?

It is strangely worded but it is working as intented. You get +1 for every 2 score above 10. So it is +4 for 18 dex. You get -1 for the fact that you have 8 and then it give you one more +1 to cancel it.

the only way I found a way around this type of issue is for some reason you have to at least have a base stat of 10... my guess is if you have a negative the game registers it as you not having the stat at all.

I think it's intended. And I'm okay with that.

I would just try taking it off and putting it on again. I have seen lots of people talking about abilities making there gear stop working and require taking it off and on again.

Yeah, it's a really weird way to display it but this is what's happening. All of the items that set your ability score to a value, rather than adding to it, show like this.
