I only know that Dark urge is vastly different than others.
If you have been meticulous in cultivating your companion quests as Tav (or dark urge), then there will be little gained in playing as that origin character. However, if you tend to neglect companions, playing as one will pretty much expose you to all of their story.
Also, there are different insights you get from playing as origin characters as opposed to watching their story third person as Tav.
(I would also recommend playing as only origin characters if you plan on playing a set multi-player group of 3 or 4 players)
I guess some of their special skill set related choices you can do would be avaialable for the player instead of needing to get comapanion in.
Like Gales expertise with the moonlanters in act 2 and so on.
But you can also make difference choices. I find them interesting to play as you get some subtle reasons why they act the way they do. Since they are the focus where playing as a custom character or the Dark urge you are the focus so you will miss some of what makes them tick and think/act the way they do.
They have a lot of unique story and dialogue options.
