If you haven't already, click the fire itself to put it out. Then just click movement on the black space behind it. Pan the camera by holding the middle mouse button if needed, and zoom in by scrolling up if the roof is in your way. Mess around with the camera enough and it will work for you, as your characters can freely walk in that space so long as you can figure out how to order them to with the cursor.
PS: It's been a long time since I did that quest so I might be wrong about the perception check so you can do as the others say and just click on the other side and see what happens.
