The goblin dilemma
Why do goblins respect drow so much? Is it because both are subterranean races? Or because both are evil races?

In case you do not know. Some 100 years ago or so most of the people only knew them as merciless and savage race of killers and raiders. And they were not off the mark by much.
Combine that with a cowardly nature of goblins. it is natural for them to worship the strong.
Drow fighters are natural born killers, while drow magic is weird and scary to surface races. At least lorewise.

I just find it odd that goblins would attack any other race such as humans, gnomes, dwarves, on sight and not fear them but enter a drow, they all bend knees.

Because things happened. Drizzt Do'Urden adventures, Liriel Baenre carving her rune of Yggdrasil sapling, War of the Spider Queen, Death and Ressurection of Eilistraee during the Second Sundering, the fall of Chen Nassad and a lot more.
As it was mentioned in the game, Drow is currently a race divided waging war on itself.

Goblins tend to kowtow to beings that are stronger and/or smarter than themselves, and drow have a rep of being merciless killing machines that check off both those boxes.

A goblin would never even give respect to a human, a human would instantly be attacked. But drow is respected and feared? Lol.

To be fair, most humans are prey. Considering what normally happens to weak drow....You're not going to find a drow that is prey. Lolth would not allow it.

not all drows worship Lloth

Oh. that. It is because Larian are mistaking The Sword Coast for a modern California. Their racial ratio in a city is absurd to the lore. I mean just look at the amount of Dragonborn.

"Why do goblins respect drow so much? Is it because both are subterranean races? Or because both are evil races?"

Respect is a strong word, I'd go with "fear so much" instead. Goblins are not an underdark race either, tho they can be found down there, but they are predominately top side.

Goblins belong to a family of critters called goblinoids, they are also the lowest rung on the ladder for goblinoids and thus are typically bullied by larger gobs' like hobs or bugbears into serving them. Ie, they are by nature diminutive and prone to falling in line with the toughest thing around them which isn't outright trying to kill...all of them.

In instance of the game it's not so much a matter of goblins respect the drow in positions of leadership as, they are the most readily available "recruits" for an evil aligned army those drow could find in their area of operation. If there had been large tribes of kobolds instead in the area, the followers of the Absolute would have coerced them into line likely too, but in this area it was largely goblins causing a ruckess which they could convert for ad hoc standing army.

Also matter of the Absolute itself being a new god on the scene both these drow, and the goblins(who were likely bullied into accepting it) worship. A common deity makes this alliance sustainable(ish) whereas traditionally, the Drow, like the actual Drow(not these rogue elements who have turned to a new god), would never work with Goblins. They would just kill them on sight, at best enslave them. More to the Absolute than just being a common deity too, but I'll digress for sake of spoilers.

Likewise, an independent and confident gathering of goblins, lets say, lead by a very strong Hobgoblin leader, who still worship Maglubiyet would more likely fight any Drow on sight, than ever speak to, or work with them.

Ultimately this joining of forces we observe in the game is a testament to the coercion of the absolute, a matter of convenience, and the planning of its leadership to make lemonade out of goblins so to speak.

Humans don't have a reputation anywhere on par with Drow. You see it wherever you go in the game - everyone is on edge around you if you play a drow, until you prove the stereotype wrong.

guess the drow breaks them in, rides them into submission.

Why is everyone on edge?

because the drow are knows to be evil abusing creatures that want nothing to do with people unless theyre slaves?

Because they have good taste. Now we just need the rest of these lesser surface races to follow suit.

You obviously know nothing about Faerûn lore, especially Drow lore.
