Shadowheart killed Nightsong and broke my game
After defeating Belthazar, Shadowheart killed Nightsong, automatically — without any dialogue options. So In a world where your spell slots are depleted after the Belthazar battle, and you need a long rest to continue through the Moonrise Towers, and continue the fight — but there is no way to get camp supplies / food, cause 1) you’ve already ran through 99% of the shadow-lands in act-II; and 2) you can’t buy camp supplies from the merchants in the Inn because they’ve now succumbed to the shadow-curse — WTF do you do? I think Shadowheart broke my game by killing Nightsong.

I’m playing on tactician and frankly I don’t feel like replaying the Belthazar fight to save-scum a different outcome… what do I do? I can’t battle without spells. I wouldn’t get past the 4/6 80+ HP lvl 7 zealots on the first floor guarding the Moonrise Towers.

I’m running Lae’zel, Astarion, Shadowheart , and my custom is a half wood elf druid with a 60/30/10 caster/support/fighter build.

I’m still encountering the stealth bug where Astarion cant target enemies using stealth due to a registered, yet nonexisting disadvantage. This is a known bug, plenty of gamers on reddit have made topics on it — yet I still used Astarion throughout my first run through. I have to say, there should be more traders in the game. There aren’t enough camp supplies to be found on the map. And I don’t think this is a detriment on player strategy but rather game design. Just speaking on the lack of food, strictly— let alone the stealth mode bug for first strikes / initiative.

There are several bad design decisions in the game in my opinion which encourage some players to save-scumming. I really don't like to reload and replay events with better knowledge what happened, that Souls-like crap. I had to do it after after the Isobel abduction incident and almost stopped playing BG3.

In the Shadowheart-Nightsong affair I needed a 30 roll to get what I wanted and had + 6 as bonuses and I thought What????, and then I achieved a 20 roll first trial, one of the two 20s I got in dialogues during the whole game. Extreme luck, I would call it. Otherwise I probably would have save-scummed till I got it, although hating it. Bad design for my taste.

Agreed. Although in this instance, I’m not sure what I could do different to get Shadowheart to spare Nightsong. Its something to do with the dialogue options right before Belthazar shows up and Shadowheart is praying and/or the way you equip the Nightsong slayer spear. I think you’re not supposed to have it equipped if you want to spare Nightsong after defeating Belthazar and his undead goons? Or can someone please shed some light unto this matter, if incase I decide to re-do the Belthazar battle. Frankly I don’t want to but I might have to. Obviously, I ****** the save right before the battle and saved over it.

Unsure if you actually need that 30 roll.
I failed it and the Nightsong mentioned Shadowheart's past and I was able to convince her to spare her without any further checks.

I killed balthazar in the temple in two separate playthroughs, and shadowheart always kills nightsong, doesn't matter what I pick. I just have to savescum until I hit the 20 roll. I could always just kill SH, but i don't feel like locking myself out of the story. Kinda bad design imo, I dunno why you just can't talk her out of it normally.

Lmao why would you wanna save Nightsong? She's a useless scissoring fan. You need to pass a persuasion check, your relationship needs to be good.

You can talk her out of it normally. It's just poorly written. If you google how to deal with the nightsong decision, you'll find the correct sequence of answers to give.

Something along the lines of:
'Is this truly what you want?', 'Please don't do this', 'Alright, you have my support'

All options where you know you can get other outcomes that are far better, not just another route are poor design choices in my opinion. There are so many choices that are rather important to get your game going where you want to, but if you don't scrum, you're basically effed. In normal play, your DM can adjust and make up on the fly changes to get the party going correctly, in CRPG's - those flaws are either or and your desired outcome will be gone for ever - or save scrum - and if it is an area where everyhone is save scrumming - you know you messed things up and shouldn't have it as RNG event, IMHO.

*spoiler*
I let Shadowheart choose and she decided to throw the spear away and let her live.

Nice that she is so different in your game.

You can kill the undead in the town, then loot their supplies
Kryldost Sep 4, 2023 @ 11:07am
You shouldn't spend all your spell slots every fights. Otherwise yeah, you'll run out of food very quickly. I keep my higher level spell slots for tougher fights rather than oblierate anything in my way. My fighters can do their part. If I need a sure shot I'll just magic missile, if i can take the hit, I'll try my luck with a ranged attacl or cantrip instead.
