Aunt Ethel's Accent – absolute cringe and just plain awkward

But no – seriously – I am REALLY enjoying this game as a whole. But we need to talk about lazy cliché Irish characters with obviously fake and stereotyped Irish accents.

Why in Selûne's good name can they not just get Irish actors to do the voice acting for these roles? Or even better voice actors who speak the Irish language and have a good understanding of our country’s linguistics.

It isn’t even offensive for most Irish people (I imagine) – it’s just immensely awkward and cringy to play through. And then the cliché with the wooden spoon. I’m fairly sure most countries used corporal punishment in the past, but the Irish have been assigned an instrument with which they supposedly had a tendency to impose such corporal punishment. Whoever came up with that cliché did not come from Ireland – and neither did Aunt Ethel’s voice actor.

To summarise:
Complete unadulterated cringe.

Well if I ever get the chance to meet a real Leperchaun I'll be able to give an honest opinion. I have however an Irish mammy myself ( wooden spoon was included ) and she had an Irish Mammy and tbh I think they pretty much nailed it.

As an Irish person, to me she sounds Irish. Might be a little over the top, but it's fine. One of the best voice acted villains in the game. Thought it was fun.
The lucky charms guy, on the other hand, doesn't sound Irish. Sounds like what you might get on the Simpsons.

Fortunately, accurate accent or not, she's a hag in Faerun, so whether or not she ressembles the real stuff is pretty irrelevant as long as her voice is captivating.

Well both of your answers are quite surprising and a bit of a relief to me. In my ears it sounded transparently fake –i.e. like a native English speaker from another country putting on the hackneyed, lazy and cliché Lucky Charms accent. Not much better than Lucky in my ears. For me it is far away from "nailing it" and a bit more more than "a bit" over the top.
In terms of it being put on, I am right – another poster named the voice actor, who happens to be British, above.

I am a bit of a language nerd so maybe I am an outlier.
But it IS funny that of the three Irish people that have commented one has said "nailed it", one has said "gud enuf" and one (me) has said "God awful".

It's a pet peeve of mine whenever non-Brits depict us using the word "bollocks" as a noun that way, we never use it as an insult, we use it the same way you use "bull" or "baloney", to express disbelief.

Honestly brought back memories of my long dead great Aunt, my aunts accent would not have been as strong but all the mannerisims and vocab was there, I remember visiting her many times as a Teenager and no matter how many times you told her you did not want food it would be forced on you also the you look a little peaky was said on afew occasions. I thought it was a great representation of an older Irish mammy figure, much like Ms Doyle from Fr Ted forcing tea on everyone does happen so much in Ireland. Ahh ya will ya will ya will..

While as the other poster said the leprechaun is clearly a american sterotype of what they see as Irish, aunt Ethel is a very close to what Irish people see as a typical Irish mammy, I know about 5 of my friends all for Dublin really got a kick out of Ethel. In all fairness while the accent is strong its not offensive and the game does have other Irish sounding characters voiced by Irish actors like nettie ect that are also very well done. While the actor who voices Ethel is English she could have Irish relatives and when you consider Larian have a studio in Dublin it's not a far stretch to think Ethel might be based on someones Irish Mammy.

Afterall Irish mammys are famous for some of the stuff they say.."if you fall off that wall and break your two legs don't come running to me!" where have ya been? I was worried sick, you could have been dead in a ditch!
