I assume you meant that for op. Because what you're saying was exactly my point: a Irish person with a background in linguistics and such wouldn't say "the Irish language".

If you read the wiki article I posted, a lot of modern people just call it Irish now instead of the old name. So yes, it seems legit for someone to call it 'the Irish language' just like it would be legit for me to say 'the English language'.
