Laezel or Karlach?

I'm needing a 4th party member and can't seem to decide between these two. I'm only lvl 5 right now and was wondering how strong they each get later on?

Laezel is solid, double attacks and has some issues that I'd like to help her with. On the other hand Karlach is hilarious and is literally on fire. I want to use both but Shadowheart and Astarion are permanent members of my party now and I don't want to drop them.

My character right now is Sorc 1, Cleric 1, Wiz 3 (going to just continue with wiz for the rest of the game). So I can tank anything really, I never get hit. So I'm just looking for DPS right now and can't decide between these two.

if you plan to kill the Githyanki Patrol at the bridge, then I would suggest Lae'zel, as that drops the BiS legendary 2h sword for Githyankis

okay, firstly the idea you made a tanking wizard is a little odd to me, but hey, if its working.

secondly, it sounds like you're a little more into karlach for personality and lae'zel's edge is basically mechanical. You can just have karlach take two dips into fighter and problem solved on that front (I personally like going 3 and making her champion to go for that extra crit, but you only need two for action surge)

Game is so easy it doesn't matter. Laezel is better IMO, idk about karlachs soul coins or armour that might make her better

laezel. fighters are top class. plus she has finished storyline, karlach does not.

I don't really want to mod the game, it's a bit too unstable already and adding a 3rd party addon just muddies the crash reports. If it gets more stable then I'll go with some mods but for now I'm limiting party size to 4.

Will that cripple her other abilities later in the game if I dip into fighter? 3 levels is a lot.

The idea is that if I do get hit (unlikely), then the enemies will just die on my shields while i can do pretty much anything I want to them.

y not both? my comp for act 1 was pretty much like yours (shadowheart + astarion). If you had to pick 1 I did choose lae zel because she's more developed as a character and more important. Remember she is one of the main companion and karlach was added in later. In term of power I did say lae zel battle master because it just gives you so much utility. It really comes down to preference tho and they are both viable on tactician.

I'm not the best giver of dps advice, since I only want the best characters for storytelling purposes, buuut...

Astarion roams my battles as my main dps, though; he's so incredibly necessary if there's no other rogue in my main party--plus his one-liners are so worth it. Gale provides back up dps spell support, and storywise always seems to have something interesting to say. Meanwhile, Shadowheart runs around with Spirit Guardians on, smacks things with her spear or mace/shield combo and heals in emergencies. Lae'zel is both a great tank and a great offense when I use her.

I just like having Karlach around because she big and the sweetest and most supportive and so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ precious and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LARIAN

And then there me: BARD. I do bard things, like go hard on my lute and cast fun spells that make enemies fall down, laughing maniacally while Astarion puts holes in them.

I am a pure ranger class and I don't have either in my party. I use Gale/Astarion/Shadowheart and it seems to work out good for me. At least for now. I do however use the others when I know I am about to go into a area that has their main quest line in it. I usually replace Astarion as my ranger can do the disableing of traps and lockpicking as well (Astarion is better though lol).

Fighters are way stronger than barbs in the long run. Lae zels race is pretty much perfect for a fighter as well since shes get stuff like misty step as a racial. Misty step is pretty much mandatory on all melee characters imo. A lot of people don't like Lae zel but her story has a lot more depth compared to Karlachs which pretty much goes nowhere.
