You could but then you would have two potentially chars without an origin, that freelancer rogue and your own, if you make a char yourself. And every companion without origin, offers no quests to the game.
I think the best you can do is play Astarion yourself, then you have full controll what he says and can become a powerfull (spoiler) in the end.
Like you, I also regret not just killing him. He's a terrible character with a terrible voice-actor. If anyone would imitate a posh elite person like this voice-actor, I'd applaud them for their simple exaggeration.
Anyway, now I'm kinda forced by myself to see this through... while I am not at all invested in him or his story. In fact, I find his whole vampire angle strangely out of place in this setting.
For example, when Astarion complains about Minthara's recruitement, you can tell him "Jealous you're no longer the least trustworthy person in our camp anymore?" and he won't take it badly or lose approval.
"you need to spend more time talking to women, or men even" It was a cheeky attempt at a subtle insult. Saying that I don't talk to anyone i.e. no friends. Hence why I said "Nice try though." Playersexual isn't a thing with the companions. They were VERY obviously coded a certain way. Karlach = Lesbians because if you have a sex scene with her as a male she shoves her fingers up your arse when you can tell that it was supposed to be an animation for her fingering a female. Also your male character uses the very female animations. Straddling her lap. Almost looking like she is about to push a strap-on into you etc. Mithara = Straight Male coded. Her sex scene it actually shows her sucking your shlong with her head bobbing up and down and then riding you.
He is more than just that. He is full on "I kick puppies and stomp on kittens" evil. SUPER power hungry. Wants you to take over the world. Is fine with killing kids. AND he's a racist.
I also feel like his ambition and being power hungry comes from just gaining freedom so he wants to make sure he wont have to be a slave to anyone ever again.
That's just my take on him, but I dont find him full on evil, even though he does have evil remarks and actions. Shadowheart is also a racist, among many other characters in the game.
Because I've done every romance in the game? It isn't a hard thing to do. Are you okay? Do you need a nap? I've done all the straight and lesbian female romances as well. Those are just two that came off of the top of my head since that's the playthrough I'm currently doing. I also never said I would comment on the Astarion sex scenes so I don't know why you were expecting that. It's obvious that he is coded as a gay man so nothings really needed to prove it. You just have to interact with him throughout a playthrough. Are you one of those females that likes trying to turn gay males that you were talking about earlier? Am I "kink shaming" you somehow?
I mean...you can't after his Act 3 story he just goes back to being the same ol' Astarion. So no change or character growth there. Unless you count three sentences on how he's happy he didn't do the ritual as character growth. "I dont find him full on evil, even though he does have evil remarks and actions" What? That doesn't even make sense. "I don't find him evil. Other than what he says and does."
Him being that way is logic : that makes him a successful hunter for victims as he lures them in the night. For that you need to have slick social skills and blend in with the city (high) society and it's night life. You can clearly see many richer Baldurians have a high level of arrogancy and self esteem of their own, so Astrion fits well in their circles.
A lot of the party members have a history brutal murderer and even torture and Astarion does not seem to be the darkest of them.
Hm? I can differentiate fantasy from reality so I feel no shame being open about it. I just was curious about Astarion because you seem to imply Karlach is low key lesbian with surprise fingering, opposed to obvious on the surface Astarion. I was wondering from your own experience what stood out in the intimate scenes that made Astarion clearly for men. That is all. And I guess pushing you around has been a bit fun. My apologies, I’ll behave now.
