So what happens if you succeed in the 99 roll (spoilers)
When trying to control the mother brain there is a roll condition of getting a 99, which I doubt is possible.

But with the power of WeMod and various other cheat engines we can actually achieve such a roll. So what happens when you hit 99? Does the mother brain call you a cheater?

It says you succeed but otherwise plays out the same.
Probably the only time in the game where success dosn't mean you win.

You still fail as it's not meant to be passable. Which contradicts the rule of nat 20, but it is what it is. There is no way to roll a 99.

Really only need to roll a Nat 20 to succeed it. Keep reloading until you do and find out for yourself. A Critical Success is a successful roll no matter what.

20 is auto win. You don't need 99, you need a nat 20.

Theres actually a video on youtube of it. You can "succeed" as it is now with a nat 20, but you are still beaten by it
nothing - with critical success roll (20) you still gonna fail the check. I think its just massive trolling from devs to save/load crowd.

Still - swen lied - failed check in 99% cases wont lead to interesting and new content - you jsut gonna lose content or start battle- thats it.

Same cutscene as when you failed

I read on reddit that if you get a nat 20, you still have to fight the brain, but that its HP gets reduced 10%

Rule of nat 20... it's not always respected rule, not with all gms, but usually it's discussed before the campaign... but gms still have their ways of playing around it.

I just googled this as I got a 20 - I assumed getting a 20 there was a scripted event. I actually got 3 x Critical Successes in the Elder Brain beam scene.. just assumed it was supposed to go that way

You can success the 99 roll with a crit, as aleays

If you make it it does the same at the rest of the rolls on that scene: nothing change history or dialogue wise but it get a little less health in the final confrontation

In this case devs fell into the classic game design trap I hated so much in JRPGs - i.e. "pre-conditioned event", which in those games normally manifests as "the fight you will lose no matter what". So wasting a lot of resources like potions and whatnot in such fights and then losing them "because the boss has the plot armor" was a major letdown. For the 99 roll it's not that bad - just a loss of time, though - so the correct way of designing it is .. surprise! Just remove the roll altogether and make it a single cutscene!

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
