ahh, i backed out of the romance last time, so that makes sense then.
I never agree to his request. Not just because I won't have sex with a mind flayer, whatever illusionary form it chooses to take in my mind. It has no consequences to a romance with any other companion, they don't know about it, it only happened in the Astral Plane.
I personally view it as another manipulation by him. Oh he's so lonely now that Duke Stelmane is dead. Oh he wants to be closer to you. IF you agree to it, I never have, but I have heard from others he never mentions it ever again, and doesn't change how he interacts with you afterward.
There is no "romance" with the Emperor. There is an attempted seduction which is part of his manipulation of you. There are a lot of hints in the game that he manipulated Duke Stelmane to get what he wanted (how he got his nickname, to be the shadow string puller in the city behind the scenes) and may have even been responsible for disabling her. Though it probably wasn't him who murdered her.
I don't think the fan theory that the Emperor is actually the mind flayer who tadpoled us in the opening cinematic is correct - but I consider it feasible.
When you confront the 4 Dream Guardians at the Netherbrain summoned by the Emperor, other companions will remark they remember them from their dreams. You the protagonist Tav see your dream scenes in game. Nobody else's. But the point is, these remarks show the Emperor may also have been projecting his Dream Guardian forms into the minds of other companions, too. (And as the four are all different, THEY saw him in different ways. They just never said anything about it until then to you.)
BTW, you ALSO fight Dream Guardians at the Netherbrain IF you bring the Emperor with you, which means the Netherbrain can summon these projections also. (Although in that case, nobody refers to them as such.)
That's a joke, right?
That's mean... I really liked Lost, I even have every season on DVD. But the end was really bad I have to admit
You can really tell the generation that white knight this games plot have never read a book in their life lol. About any random old dime store fantasy paperback from 1970 onward that you can pick up has a better story to read lol.
In multiple playthroughs, it becomes apparent how the Emperor is a huge liar but only with specific choices during the game that some might consider to be less-than-nice to someone who seems to want to be an ally.
That extra info sheds a different light on everything the player's seen in the dreams. The whole thing is a lie.
It's pretty obvious that it was a fabrication when all is revealed, but the question becomes whether the active character accepts the excuse for the deception. Refuse the explanation and the relationship with the Emperor goes sour and, with further prodding throughout the rest of the story, reveals the kind of person he was and the kind of creature it now is.
Yet that in itself felt like an excuse to excise a story and replace it with something out of left field.
Oh, well. This is modern entertainment across all mediums. Accept it or don't. They write the stories. We read them. We either like them or don't. It's the same if we write stories and others read them. They'll like them or don't.
