Intrigue is only a virtue when there's some sort of payoff.
Intrigue for intrigue's sake is...well, the reason nobody remembers the tv series "Lost" very fondly.
11/10 not regret one bit
Atm yes there is no sense to creating that ilussion. Or hugging it for sympathy.
But they left it there and made this weird plot choice to sort of still make it feel part of the game.
God knows what the games original plot was anyway. But it wasn't this. They changed a lot of it. Removed. Try to patch what they had with a new story and you end up with this crap.
Can find info on here or online on what she was supposed to actually be.
Another missing plothole that revolves arround your companions as well is Avernus.
That thing was deffinetly ment to be in the game considering all the dialogue and options.
Or soul coins, they forgot to remove them. But they removed the whole plot where you use them to buy things from hell. Atm, just useless junk in your inventory.
Same with a lot of other miscelanous items that were meant to be used for crafting.
For instance in the alpha there was a craft bench.
Now i havent found one, and im in ACt3. Some said it was in act 3, but this was at launch. I wonder if that was misinformation.
I cant even find anything on youtube that isnt 2 years old. So im pretty sure they took crafting out completely vs the alpha version.
Etc.
If I remember right you can use coins on Karlach, however I did not use it on my playthrough. Also if I remember right you can sell them for 100 gold per coin so not that useless.
And speaking of "cut content": things change during the development and not all things are working out at the end. For example in EA during the fight with gnolls you could've ordered their leader to kill all other gnolls and when they are done you could've also order to kill itself (which was a way to cheese that fight), however I did not see it in the final version. Also fishers are no longer trying to help the mindflayer to get out from under the wreck. The huge section of nautiloid was changed. Did they remove it b/c they "were patching story to get you this crap"? Don't be ridiculous since nothing of those was tied to the story: for example nautiloid section was just boring as hell and I am glad that piece is gone. Same with other pieces.
we know form data mineing that the orginal dream companion is indeed trying to corrupt you, it corrupts by convincing to stay by the river for ever, thus you body will transform and the illithid will take over.
Dont get me wrong, story we got is still ok. But as a guy that actually pays attention to everything. SO i notice all these gaps and inconsistencies in the story and i notice how patched up it is.
Yes its normal to remove content and change stories. But they tend to do a better job at covering it up.
Last patch adressed some of those issues, and hopefully they will fix it. Like they adressed some NPC discussions about areeas that dont exist etc.
The appearance has no bearing on the romance.
It was pretty smart. He did explain it was something about a form we'd trust or we'd prefer. There's nothing else 100% we would trust than an avatar we would make.
The knoll trick works. If you approach the leader during the fight you can still convince her to kill the other gnolls and devour herself. I’ve gotten it on some playthroughs and not others.
endgame spoilers:
If you decide to free Orpheus though, the Emperor decides to do a hell-face turn and join up with the Absolute for no reason, and in this fight, he summons Dream Guardians to fight alongside him, who remain around even if he's dead, kind of suggesting that they're somehow separate entities from him? So not sure what's going on there.
The Emperor will agree to re-assume his Dream Guardian form during your, uh, "moment of intimacy" if you ask him. So, I guess, in a way, you can really design it to be and look like the woman of your dreams. (If your Tav is a het male.) Bearing in mind, in reality, at this point, he still is a male mind flayer.... I personally think it is all taking place in your mind psychically anyway, kind of like the sex "David" had with "Syd" in the Legion TV show.
Other than that, as I basically decided on a 2nd playthrough, there's no real reason to spend much time on it. You know you're just cratfting an illusion that will be shed later in the game.
I don't think there really is an Emperor 'romance' per se. More I think a seductive manipulation.
