With patch 1, there is no way left to get both Minthara and Halsin:
---
Recruiting Minthara doesn't necessarely involve the grove raid though (that's one option). You could also just move on (the only thing you shouldn't do is kill or "non-lethal-kill" her, as the game treats both as "death" and removes here from the game).
Don't interact with Minthara in Act 1 at all
Recruit Wyll/Karlach like normal
Expose Kagha as a Shadow Druid
In Act 2 she will be at Moonrise and you can save her and have her join you
If you want Halsin: Rescue him in the prison but tell him to stay there. In Act 2 start the Art Callagh quest in Last Light, go back to Halsin in the Goblin prison and talk to him, then meet him in Last Light and do that quest
You can refuse to help either side in the Grove.
This and your response were thr answer I was after, rather than skipping content or cheesing through, so thanks.
Off the top of your head, do you know or remember how I don't get involved as such? I saw dialogue that suggested such, but i felt I kept getting herded into raiding or saving.
Shes actually a good character, but for some reason in order to recruit her you have to do an evil deed.
She should be recruitable by knocking her out. Or you should be able to save the Tieflings by distracting the Goblins and Minthara and getting them out without killing her.
Really, I am FINE with a character companion who is evil and does bad things. Astarion kinda sorta fits the bill though I wouldnt call him truly evil. More just immensely selfish and self-centered. But i have NEVER seen a genuinely good character (Paladin of Vengeance, sure she isnt a knight in shining armor but post-liberation Minthara is a 'good' character) get locked behind committing an atrocious deed. Especially a 'good' character who is being effectively mind controlled.
I dont understand it. Maybe a bug? I'd also like to know what Larian was doing with her romance. Could someone tell me if there is even a romance there?
Yeah you can just go straight to the mountain pass or do everything but the battle. Literally just skip the whole grove arc.
I dont feel like thats a solution. More like a 'patch'. Your literally skipping a major story beat. I mean, thats what it basically entails.
You can keep saying no to the Tieflings, although it doesn't chance much. As far as Minthara goes, if you talk to her you kinda have to "agree" to help, even though you can tell her you are not ready yet. I don't thing it's possible to get dragged into it by mistake, you never get locked into fighting for either side. Before the fight takes place, the grove changes state, you will notice.
I am not sure what all the triggers are for the quest to proceed, but for example, if you agree to help Minthara, she will tell you to wait a day. After resting the quest will progress, but you still have to go manually to the grove and talk to the Tiefling leader, and even then you still get to choose whom to help.
I guess for world consistency, say to the tieflings that it's not your fight, say the same thing to Halsin, do whatever with Minthara, and just never bother with the grove after a certain point. The fight will probably be resolved on its own, when you leave act 1.
You don't have to skip the whole grove, just refuse to help against the goblins. You are only skipping a single battle and the corresponding celebration. It's only a side quest.
Can you still get Halsin?
