Game keeps crashing after today's patch (Aug 25th).
Well... to be fair, there also was an Nvidia driver update, so I won't put all the blame on BG3, but still.
Game never crashed out like that on me - I did have two PC freezes before however (blue screen of death and all that), but this is different.

First time happened during combat in Moonrise Prison. Second time happened after that battle was over, I was done looting and wanted to fast-travel back to the Inn to sell my stuff. Clicked on the waypoint on the map and *poof*.

Game CTDs and presents me an error-message coming from the launcher.

At first I thought it was due to GFX settings, since the patch re-set lots of those, including setting display mode to fullscreen instead of borderless window. Some folks had reported that this is what caused the crashes for them, but my second CTD happened after I had changed it back to borderless window.
Next step was trying to delete those three cache-folders, but I haven't started the game again since I threw these off my SSD.

And no: My PC isn't overheating and/or too weak to run the game. i5-12600K, RTX 4070, 32 GB of DDR4 and a brand-new ATX 3.0 PSU with 750W I just put it. Runs all my other games pretty good and I just stress-tested it in Cinebench and 3DMark.

What about the GPU's cache?

Me too. It's not the Nvidia drivers, I didn't even update them. 80 hours and not a single crash, after the update of August 25 it started, already 4 one by one.

i had same problem...i updated nvidia drivers and hard exited out of steam (not just clicking the X to get out, but actually choosing EXIT from the Steam drop down list), then restarted my PC

That seemed to work, though im not sure which of those three things actually did it. I can play just fine now...

85 hours without any crashes and today after patch kabom!! wtf

same here, not a single crash before the patch today. after, loading areas in act 3 cause near instant ctd. cannot progress any further until this is figured out

edit: moving to a different area and attempting to save or leave the new area causes CTD

This patch has completely broken the game for me, it won't load any save past 60% and then just gets stuck there. Have to cntrl alt delete out. Not a single issue before todays patch

I do have an MSI board, but this isn't about the PC going blue screen on me. These are crashes back to desktop.

Like I stated in my OP, I did already verify file integrity and deleted those three cache-folders. Neither of which seems to have done the trick, since I just had another crash. I think that's three or four now in just as many BG3-sessions. Before today's patch, the game never CTDed for me like that - just those two freezes/BSODs I had, but I suspect those are probably also HW-related.

So far, the game has CTDed at least:
2x during combat
1x when trying to fast-travel
1x when loading a save-game

... and now it even crashed when I simply tried to quick-save... lol!

also discovered the same issue, specifically crashing on save in act 3 anywhere around lower city, which blows pretty hard. other places seem okay, but still having crashes upon entering/loading certain areas. still have yet to find a fix

I'm in the process of finishing Act 2, so all of this was mostly around the Inn and Moonrise Towers. Going out on a limb here and suggest that this is probably not strictly related to any one specific location. Probably could happen during any of the Acts.... I guess.

As stated before: It doesn't even seem to be linked to any specific event or player input. Sometimes it's in the middle of combat, sometimes it's when trying to fast-travel, and now it even happened when trying to quick-save. And sometimes it's just me rotating the camera, I think.

All I can say is that before the patch the game never crashed to desktop for me. Yes: A couple of BSOD "freezes", but those only happened after hours of gameplay and they only happened twice in 60+ hours.

yep, looking into it further I believe it crashes on save whenever I leave the area/map the original save was loaded in before the patch. This goes as far as to not being able to save in my own camp. I have not been able to save successfully otherwise, which is a huge bummer... I have not tried to make a new game which I'm sure would work but to my knowledge they (supposedly) fixed updates messing with saves since official release. Theoretically you could probably leave said starting area, progress in the game wherever, go back to where the save started and save there but I've yet to try. Autosaves might kick in at some points and randomly CTD as well so I've given up for now.

It's strange though, because I'm seeing quite a mixed bag of people having issues. I'm watching streamers play the game with little to no issues, at least not as bad as literally not being able to save. Thinking it could be a problem on my end but I've been at it for hours now to no avail so giving it a day or two to see what the community stirs up.

Also same thing here, I don't think I had a single crash or save issue before the patch. After its been a juggle just trying to progress without crashing on save.

I'm trying to solve this problem for the second day, nothing helps....
Game crashes on save act 3
I really want to play, but I can not
Altogolik Aug 25, 2023 @ 5:56pm
I think it may be the case in some buggy item that got into the inventory and because of this game crashes. After all, there is a lot of cut content in Act 3.
