You do not need to follow her. You can just go pass through.
pretty janky indeed
I can see why that'd be an issue with mouse/keyboard, though. WeirdWizardDave has the right answer.
Is it bugged?
There is an unopenable(?) hidden door/wall before she leaves you with her pets (if they're still around at that time). That goes away, but instead of exposing the area behind the fireplace, it keeps it masked until your characters enter that area. I think that's not intended but a side-effect of the hide-until-you're-supposed-to-see-it closed-door mechanic.
Also, turn off the fireplace before stepping on it. You don't have to walk through the fire.
So I'm supposed to click past the fireplace without seeing what's there?
I did, just turned it back on to check if that did anything. Lae'zel keeps insisting on stepping on it, at least it's not damaging her.
It works fine for 3rd person controls with a console controller where the player doesn't click anything for going somewhere out of turn based. Players just use the two sticks to do standard movement controls as for the vast majority of console games. Not being able to see where one is going isn't an issue, but it's a necessity for click-moving.
I wonder how this got missed in testing of EA. There was no controller in EA. I'm trying to remember if that area was blanked during EA. Part of my memory says it was never masked along with many other areas that wouldn't normally be known to the players, which means this mechanic never received the same scrutiny as the other EA features.
Edit:
Ok, I had to use the turn based mode to be able to walk through.
This was the solution for me, thank you.
