Mage Hand Use?
I can't figure an actual practical reason to take mage hand. What can they be used for that can't just be done by a regular character?

Aren't magic missles a lvl 1 spell? And they are amazing.

I used mage hand for the crate over the canyon near entrance in the "Dragon's lair" where the kids are,.
and I use magehand to throw my cat when it can't make the jump xd.
I used it for the backpack at the bibberbang area

I never thought about this but, can anyone confirm if Mage Hand pick up disarmed weapons? Because that'd be kind of crazy on some fights if Lae'zel disarms, then mage hand picks up the weapon.
They can't hold them that I have found, but they can throw them at people.
So, as an example, if I disarmed a Githyanki's sword, and Mage Hand moves up to throw the sword, I can, in theory loot it before the enemy picks it up again?

Yeah that should work, though I don't think after you command (priest spell) him to drop the weapon, that he picks it back up.

Without posting spoilers there is a certain turn limited segment in act 3 where mage hand is really helpful in interacting with some objects meaning your party can use their actions for more important matters.

At the very least there a couple closed grate doors that can be open from the other side by casting a mage hand.
Also the place in the underdark with a lots of of poison cloud shrooms and a dwarf. You can use your mage hand to move his bag out of the field, to get a scroll of misty step for him. Also get that torch he droped nearby, that way poison clouds will not explode if you make a mistake while navigating that field of mushrooms.

Okay, that's pretty useful then.
Thanks for the reply, I'm definitely going to try that out now. I know that disarming makes them drop the weapon, but I never thought to actually pick it up like that. That saves an attack round if mage hand is doing all the work.
Its a target, enemies have to target it thus spending a action point on a basically non essential member.

It can push and throw and can cause ''on the ground'' for enemies so you can get that sweet crit hits with 99 ac

One thing I noticed is lot's of player just LEEROY themselves into battles, think outside of the box

Maybe leave few bombs etc. with the hand on high terrain before battle starts, enemies will have a hard time hitting it thus possibly wasting an action point.

There is one sidequest in the underdark where it's very useful. It involves an NPC trapped by some toxic mushrooms.

If you have combined level slots like a warlock it's not as useful as a higher-level spell. If you're a wizard you have to be creative to get value out of first-level slots and Mage Hand is great.

I just did this, actually. Was having trouble until I remembered that I can turn on TBM and make the "puzzle" aspect pointless.

It's a utility spell. Its usefulness is directly tied to your preparedness and your creativity. If you are neither prepared nor creative. Then it's useless for you.

I've just never put much thought or use into the mage hand to learn its quirks. I enjoy being creative and cheesing fights, but I've never tried using a mage hand to that end.
It can throw things. I used it to pull levers/press buttons in the grymforge guardian fight and to throw a chest across a gap a few times and to get the noblestalk. That's it. It's more of a tabletop thing where it's useful because there are no limits on the interactivity.

Used Astarion's mage hand (it's invisible) to move a certain barrel of rune powder and it changed the cut scene (and the out come) of that interaction.
