I think I broke the jealousy system

So, I've made the 'mistake' to not rest often during act 1. Coming from pathfinder games, I figured this whole questline might be somewhat timed. So that kind of messed the scenes up a bit for me. By the time of the camp celebrations, I only had one flirty scene so far, so on that night, I got a talk with Wyll with kiss (not the dance scene) and the weave magic scene with Gale.

Moving on, next romance scene I've got was Wyll's dance scene from where I had a convo option with Gale to make a decision. Which I found silly to pick at that point as really, I didn't even do anything but two kisses with Wyll and some flirty thoughts (!) with Gale. So I just ignored it. Then came the second Gale scene with the astral sex and it kind of sold it to me, I thought this whole balcony scene was really nice and I aimed to decide for Gale. But the option to choose was gone. Both, Gale and Wyll, treated me as their lover. Only Karlach suddenly got the convo line as an option, which I ignored again as really, I never had anything with her. It just made no sense to kind of break up with her in advance of even flirting?! Or is a friendly hug when she gains the ability to touch again a sexual thing suddenly? Anyways.

So, at some point I just called it quits with Wyll as I didn't want to mess stuff up. But then Whitters had a talk to ...Shadowheart and asked her (or me?) why I don't have anyone in camp. I wasn't so sure who he's talking to, as he usually doesn't have extra lines with other companions up only me. Before, he'd told be a lecture to not loose my task out of sight over romancing Wyll and Gale.

Act 3, Halsin made his move. I didn't know to that point that he usually would have poked me about my potential partner before pulling through with it. He didn't mention Gale. We had a fun night. Both guys camp side by side. I can kiss both. No one says anything. No complaint from Gale. No line to choose other than to just break up with him, which isn't my intention. Lol. My little hobbit is just full of love, but if put to make a choice, it would be Gale. She doesn't know that yet though.

Soooo.... did I bug things out by just not bringing the topic up myself? Shouldn't the jealous partner be the one to opt for that talk? Not me?

Yep, something is definitely broken. Gale should tell you to reject Halsin.

Try downloading Patch 1. It may fix your issues.

This is another problem within the game for me. Some things ARE timed, others are not, and there's no indication which are which.

ever since moving into the inn with my party, Halsin isn't available for romance talk anymore. if that's not a hint of him being the doubleganger, I guess theyve locked me to Gale now. Phew.

I've started a new playthrough a few days ago, and I ended up being able to romance Astarion, Shadowheart, Wyll, Gale and Halsin all at once. The romance and jealousy mechanics are definitely broken on Patch 1.

Oddly enough, Halsin only told me to ask Shadowheart for permission before... that scene, yet I could still go kiss Wyll and Gale, though Astarion just called me "dear".

i was on tactician through my play through and hardly rested at all due to things being too easy. Astarion only just tried to bite me at the end of act 2 lol (3rd longrest i took in the game) that being said all their quests seemed to continue fine into act 3 for me.

Companion Quests being tied to the Resting system had to be one of the dumbest design choices Larian has made with this game. Just awful game design.

I had to put in some extra rests, not because I needed them but because I wanted to catch up on the story. You'll probably not be able to do all the companions quests without resting more. Left alone the whole guardian thing

The game assumes you will rest A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOT. Far more than I did, at least. I did not see the owlbear cub in my camp before the act 2>3 transition rest, Astarion never tried to bite me etc. I wonder how much story I missed by being economical about my resource usage.

you don't need to be economical, and there are barely any time sensitive quests that aren't obvious. Otherwise you will miss a lot.

you don't need to be economical, and there are barely any time sensitive quests that aren't obvious. Otherwise you will miss a lot.

I know that now, but my ingrained instinct for DnD-style games is to use any per-rest resources as sparingly as I can. I did the entire act 1 - including Underdark and Mountain Pass - in a grand total of three rests.

yeah unfortunately I missed out a lot of content due to that too and it pretty much bugged the whole romance thing

Unfortunately, it might have broken the romance, too. I am far into act 3 and didnt get the boat scene with Gale. He asked me to come to him that night, after finding the book he wanted, but I got another cutscene in that night and ever since, nothing happened. Meanwhile Ive been to Mystra and near the end, and when doing long rests, no new cutscenes trigger. so does that mean the romance is screwed?
