Is See Invisibility not working?
So I am fighting a Duergar when it casts invisibility on its turn and then walks away from me. I am currently equipped with an item that gives see invisible up to 9m. but I can no see the Duergar anymore. I waited until it was the turn of the character with the ability and walked it right next to where the Duergar ended his turn, but I am unable to see him or target him for an attack. Am I misunderstanding the item I have or is the item/spell currently not working correctly?

I just had a similar issue. Seems like a probable bug. As I understand it there's no roll involved.

I believe the see invisibility does say they need to make a roll to see the invisible creature? Auntie Ethel and Dugear in underdark all use it and I always saw them roll dec save to avoid it every time they moved it triggered a save.

Yea think it's a bug sometimes enemies simply don't do their check.
See invisibility is a dex save to avoid it, however, its based on line of sight so you need to be look at them. Some enemies won't do the check because the game doesn't consider you "seeing" them so its a bit weird. I've been mostly using it as a auto counter spell for invisability.

This. I had to use it for the hunter Devil in the Shar temple who turns invisible every turn.
You need to actually be line of sight of them (as in character facing thier direction) for the checks to happen.

I checked it again and the Duergar isnt rolling any saves that are being shown.

It seems like the game is treating the invisible state just like a kind of "better" hiding state. An invisible creature isn't necessarily hidden and one character seeing the invisible creature shouldn't break the spell. A dex save makes no sense in that context, since the invisible creature does not need to "apply itself" to stay invisible, it has that condition until that condition gets broken.
While I can see that having two layers of "characters can see characters" being more difficult to implement, this seems like a cheap way to resolve it.

Thanks, that makes sense, just wish I could see the saving throw as none showed up in the combat tracker for me.

That's so dumb...
I'm currently in an area with lots of invisible enemies dozen of rooms, multiple layers, and corners.... And See Invisibility is kinda useless like this...
It also seems like they do the check only once, and if they save, they just invisible for eternity.

EDIT:...... I made the last creature, which I didn't even could hit with an AOE-Attack..,. visible with create water...

Yes as stated above its a DEX save v. the spell DC of the person who cast the spell. If they suceed you don't get to see them.

Anyone know if there are 2 modes to this? For example, out-of-combat vs in-combat invisibility?

Ive noticed it seems to always work when Im not in combat but is half and half when in combat.

I also wonder if they maybe had an issue with volos eye and invisibility bause letting one character see the creature but not everyone else may be tricky?
