Lae'zel's Creché and the Underdark are mutually exclusive?
So, i've just finished the druid/tiefling conflict and I'd like to proceed through the Underdark since it's such an iconic D&D location, however it seems that Lae'zel's creché is in the mountain and I'd like to proceed through the story. Will taking one route prevent me from doing the other? And if not, which one should I do first and makes the most sense story-wise?

nope
story wise it is about the same, it is shorter, but could be harder to "finish"
though the logic of the setting/story falls short, no matter if you take the mountain pass or the underdark, you end up in the same location, just different "entry points", so that whole talk about "underdark is safer" is nonsense.
Just don't go up the elevator in the Underdark, or exit the far end of the mountain pass. Those take you to the next act. You can do everything in both areas.
I finished the whole underdark before doing the creche. I assume you can do them in any order though.

They're not mutually exclusive, so you can do it either way. In my opinion the way through underdark gets you faster to the next big area and continuation of the main quest, whereas the mountain pass is a smaller, mostly self-contained area (or at least that's how it seemed to me). So it's up to you. Edit: just adding that you can go through the underdark to the next big area, and then from there to the mountain pass and back.

not fact you can teleport to Act 1 from Act 2 and do mountain pass

you can do the mountain pass and all thats related to it also when you reach act 2, only when you go into the shadowfell in act 2 the creche arc will become locked
If you trigger mountain pass, Lae'zel will eventually leave your party and head to the creche if you take too long to go there yourself.
Underdark is Act 1, Mountain Pass is Act 2. You will get a message to "Tie up loose ends" when you try to enter the Mountain Pass, and if you do that will complete some quests in the Act 1 areas you might have missed. This does not happen when entering the Underdark, so that is still considered as Act 1 area.

You can totally do both, though I recommend the Underdark first as you will lose some quest activity if you go to the Mountain Pass first (like the part with Nere and the Ironhand Gnomes).
No, they're not mutually exclusive. Story-wise, Mountain Pass, then Underdark makes more sense than the alternative. However, doing both is always going to be a bit of a stretch in the roleplaying department.

If you've completed the main conflict of the Wilderness area, you know exactly where you need to be going, and both Rosemoryn (Mountain Pass) and Grymforge (Underdark) are adjacent to that area, so backtracking back to the Wilderness to then go the other way makes little logical sense.

Underdark is Act 1, Mountain Pass is Act 2.
That's not correct. Wilderness, Underdark, Grymforge, and Rosemoryn are all part of Act 1. You can tell because you get the "enter Act 2" achievement and the "leave Act 2" achievement at the beginning and end of the Shadow-Cursed Lands, respectively.

It would certainly be appropriate to consider Grymforge and Rosemoryn something of an Act 1.5, since they do forcibly progress the Wilderness questline, if you left it unfinished, but Act 2, they are not.

You can still, for example, go back and save Halsin, kill Minthara, etc. until actual Act 2. The only consequence I'm aware of to entering Rosemoryn and/or Grymforge is that the Right of Thorns will be completed, locking off the Druid grove.

That's not correct; I've completed Rosemoryn, then gone back to Grymforge and still saved Nere. Did you perhaps enter Act 2 before backtracking to Grymforge?

I'm not even sure the Druid line is affected until you enter Act 2. I went and wandered the entire underdark, managed to not 'help' anyone, and ended up back at the Gobbo camp with super shiny armour, if you understand where that came from. The last thing I did was finish the gobbos and everyone was ok in druid land.

Also, you can go through to Act 2 and come back to the Creche afterwards.
