Why is there no Beholder in this game?
I love this game to bits! Still playing after finishing it, but no Beholder? Where is DnD's most iconic monster, its criminal to leave it out!

EDIT: Spectators are NOT Beholders, its like saying a bobcat is a lion. They are related but EXTREMELY different.

They had to go with their lesser forms...
A true beholder would have people complaining about all the cheap instant death moves a broken boss is doing. Not even Raphael spams kill effects.

An average of 50 damage for its most damaging attack isn't an instant death.

BG3 Spectators are not standard 5e Spectators, larger size, a bit more juiced.

It almost feels like they're a Beholder stand-in who are not as good as a Beholder.

The monster info popup when you examine them states they are beholders. On the main screen they are called Spectators. Maybe Larian originally put in fully fledged beholders but the EA players got so traumatised by them Larian decided to have mercy and downgraded them. Slightly.

Yesterday I got ambushed by the one near the Arcane Tower. I'm still traumatised today :steammocking:

No, that's not it.

Spectators can be taken out by a level 1-3 party dependent on the mob in DnD. Beholders are meant for levels 8+.

Beholders are glass cannons, but they're glass cannons that either wipe your party or die in a few rounds.

They're on par w/ mind flayers.

Btw the vitality for the Spectator class in the files is a little bit less than 120, for the Beholder it's 180. Also the armor is for the Spectator 12 I think, for the Beholder 16.

Naw, standard 5e Beholders have an AC of 18. If you buff following the stats of BG3, you'd probably see a buff of at least 300 hp.

Consider that a proper Beholder's CR is 14, the same as an Elder Brain. It's not really a side-boss kinda thing for a campaign capped at 12.

Are you "naw"ing me quoting the files of the game?

DnD 5e, sorry. Larian's trying to fit 5e into the cRPG (there is no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in-game beholder otherwise. Sounds like you pulled that out of your pooper), but if you scale off of what they did with the spectator, beholders should be much tougher.

For reference:

2. Stat block for a 5e spectator: https://5e.tools/bestiary.html#spectator_mm

Spectators are not Beholders.

Spectators are like Babies first Beholder..
