Cringe levels... high?

Game Cringy? Not Cringy? Let me know what you think.

I'm just putting out some feelers, trying to decide if I want to play this. Gameplay looks excellent but from what I've seen on YouTube, I have concerns over the game's general tone.

I don't know if all the hyper-sexualized stuff I've seen is commonplace in the game or if I've just been exposed to it on YouTube because it generates clicks.

I'm not gonna debate politics or morality. Just want to hear some honest perspectives from cool-minded individuals.

EDIT: Just want to say that the sexual content isn't really my main concern (although it is directly related), it's the WRITING and TONE as a whole that I want to hear opinions about

Exposed on YouTube, and you've probably already seen pretty much everything there is to see in this regard.

Despite all the hysteria there, it is actually pretty tame in content if you compare it to something like Skyrim, except for the fact that you can see genitalia without using mods.

You can disable that of course, but it is there in the vanilla game without mods.

It's the only party member that is genuinely likeable, that much I'd agree.

its D&D and is your standard "you start by trying to solve your own problems and then bigger stakes appear" stuff.

the "hyper sexual"(lol as if, fade to black), content is entirely optional.

Overall pretty good, only a few real cringe moments. Like Lae'zel and Shadowheart's "imagine if we turned our catfight on our enemies" instant make up. Same for Wyll and Karlach, basically cooling down and changing his tone completely in 0.5 seconds.

Raphael's song though, that was probably the lowest point imo. Super cringe. Some people love it, I don't get that but to each their own. For me, an OG BG1-2 fan, it was so out of place and Disney that it was maximum cringe. Completely undermined everything cool about the House of Hope. That stuff belongs in Aladdin, not Baldur's Gate.

She's a demon who was sold into slavery, spent 10 years in a war in hell itself and has a ticking time bomb in her chest but talks and acts like a 14 year old girl who just learned shes free to curse. Char interactions, the things most seem to complain about, have been tame for me so far.

On the other handing opening a door to find a Bugbear boning an ogress (who is not happy with the interruption) was a little disturbing. Beware random doors in the blighted village.

If you're a sensitive little dandy then I'm sure your cringe levels will be bothered by a small portion of game play.

If you don't want to have sex with your companions, then don't make the obvious romantic choices that lead you to have sex with your companions. It's not like the developers trick players into these choices. They're pretty heavy handed, and I've not seen any hidden or special romance options. All the companions follow fairly standard archetypes and if you make choices in the game they like or dislike, you'll gain or lose approval. Then if you make romantic dialogue options with them in camp, you'll eventually romance them.

You really have to go out of your way to be offended by the sex in this game.

Not cringe at all. You would have to seriously pursue romantic entanglements to get to any sexualized content. Like in real life some characters might be more assertive than others but you are never forced to experience that aspect of the game. I just finished Act 1 and no sexy time yet, I have actually tried =)

Takes two to tango in this case. Trolls are thick on both sides. So much so it leaves the impression neither side has any logic to choose a side in the first place.

It's like if our current version of government was the beginning of government levels of stupid. Just start off with the right and left hating each other, or in this case woke vs anti-woke. Neither serves a purpose anymore.

I didn't find it disturbing, just a somewhat mediocre joke encounter that is mildly funny the first time due to the sheer surprise effect, but ultimately didn't need to be in there.

But yea, that is basically the 'hyper-sexualized' content in a nutshell, shallow romance arcs like you'll find in a PG-13 tv show with the typical fade-to-black when it's down to business, spiked with the occasional crude sexual joke just for the memes.

The Witcher 3 has it beat, in my personal opinion, if we are judging by spicyness or whatever you want to call it.

I don't find the writing of the romances to be of the same quality as most other writing in the game personally, if that's cringe or not I have no clue, but it definitely is the weakest part of the writing overall (cut content notwithstanding).

You posting that in this forum is like saying you want to eat at a Michelin Star restaurant and but you walk into a KFC. This discussion forum has been a ♥♥♥♥ pit of people arguing about the gay / woke / Identity politics in the game, besides a ton of other users complaining about almost every aspect of the game.
