Edit: I've also found a lot of those potions, so far (beginning act 2) had to rarely craft any of them.
Longstrider is good if you don't have it, speak with dead can be fun, there are options.
"Limiting choices"...
Is it really so hard to get one of the classes, that can speak with animals?
1. You aren't forced to speak to animals and can finish quests and the game just fine without it.
2. A lot of classes and subclasses have it. If you refuse to squeeze in one of those into the group, it's you yourself limiting your choinces, not the game. you can talk with any character in the group. It doesn't have to be your MC.
Barbarian also get this cantrip early, so you can simply play barbarian or recruit Karlach in your team. There are many solutions as you can see.
