Cutting Words - question
So I have a College of Lore Bard who just learned "Cutting words", and the ability in the game says:
"The target receives a 1d6 penalty to attack roll, abilty check or damage dealt."

but on the bg3 wiki it saysit was changed to:
"The target receives a 1d6 penalty to attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws."

Did they just forget to update the description in the game? Which is it? I feel like the ability will see drastically different uses based on which of these is true.

by wiki do you mean fextralife?
remember that has been up since EA and takes a lot of time to update.

It's automatic. What's great about it is that if one of your enemies barely makes their attack, cutting words automatically activate and they miss.

Cutting words guarantees 6 misses by your enemies between every short rest.

Dont rely of fextralife it's wildly inaccurate where there even is information. It is not official 😁

Okay, so it definitely does not affect saving throws then? Just attack, checks and damage?

couldnt you test this from the combat log?
just see if any penalty is being applied to their damage?

Yeah, but what I'm really interested in is the saving throws, and I'd have to throw a lot of spells to get it into the range where cutting words might be able to adjust the result. Figured there might be knowledgable bards out there who had the answer ready to go :)

that said, in 99% situations wikis are fan-based, so unless the wiki mentions that "the in game description is wrong" just go by what the game says.

Went ahead and tested it, and the in-game description is indeed wrong. It can be used for saving throws too.

Good to know, sounds to me like they added the damage part later, replaced the saving throws part and then completley forgot about it

Do yourself a favor and set the reaction for cutting words to "ask me." Every time a relevant check comes up it asks you if you want to use cutting words. This will show you exactly which rolls it applies to, but more importantly, won't use cutting words when the opponent rolls, e.g., a 24 against a 17 DC. You probably don't want to waste a limited use of bardic inspiration on a DC you can't change. It's best for when the opponent hits on exactly the right number, or one above it, something where the odds are it will actually change the outcome.

Bard is one of the best debuffers in the game thanks to Cutting Words.

My question: Cutting Words is supposed to upgrade from a 1d6 to 1d8 and finally 1d10.
But in my limited testing it only ever used a 1d6. Anyone else confirm?
