Is the game better as a single player experience or in coop?
I'm not a rpg fan, but I understand I'll miss out a lot if I won't play this game. Are there many people who played it in coop? I'm always on the lookout for a new coop game to play with friends (no pvp fps nonsense). But I can't imagine how does it play in coop? Is it better to play a narrative game alone?

If you want the full story, go solo or at least without a full 4 person co-op so you can swap in companions as their story points become the main focus. If you want a lot of goofy shenanigans and aren't overly interested in the complete story, then the more the merrier.

The co-op is badly implemented, probably on purpose because everyone has a hate-boner for co-op

It depends largely on your friends, can you trust them to not wander too far away and get into trouble? How likely are they to want to complete a 60+ hour RPG campaign?

It's based on DnD which is at it's heart a social game, so I beilve the best way is in coop, but not everybody's behavior is conducive to this type of game,

Agreed with this, though

Games in general are always way more fun when you play them with family and friends.

Are the people you want to play with ADHD ridden, easily distracted, bloodthirsty apes allergic to teamwork??? If yes then single player is better. If not Single player is still probably better for a first go through.

Have you ever tried herding cats?

No? Getting several people to constantly play at the same time for the same length is like that.

Really depends on who you play with.

Co-op is going to be better if you get along with your group and know how to properly role-play with them, and can set aside the time needed to actually get through the game (considering it took me 67 hours to beat it and many people needed significantly longer, that's a tall order for many groups).

But playing solo has some advantages. One major advantage is that you get more out of the NPC storylines for named party members, when they are actually with you. But in co-op you make your own story and can have hilarious things ensue in a way that never happens in solo play (where you decide everything for your entire party).

I beat the game solo, but plan to play through it properly in co-op eventually.

Don't play co-op until they fix it so you can remove the random's character when they're not online.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages. One is as good as the other. The only problem with working together is that it's such a big game that it takes time to get to the goal, but if everyone involved understands that they're in it for the long haul, then it's a win-win situation.

I've actually enjoyed it a lot more solo. You get to move at your own pace, and have count of everything.

I play with my 2 sons and it is a blast.
I also do single player when they are not free and it is just awesome...

Really, really good with a friend.
With randoms. Not so much.
Alone. Really really good.

But it is a CRPG. so there will be a lot of waiting around for turns and the like. bear that in mind. It's not for everyone.

Single for interaction with other characters.

Depends on how much fun your friends are

I'm playing it slowly in split screen, local co-op, and it has issues. We encountered several problems on the first chapter with quest lines breaking and weird dialogues caused by different characters doing parts of the story.
For example, I recruited Karlach, but almost totally ignored Wyll up to that point because it was the second character of player 2. And then it kind of broke. Wyll always has a mark notifying as he wants to talk, but he doesn't have anything to say and all progress about him just stopped. We are now in the underdark and he is still like that.
Everyone talks about how NPCs throw themselves at you, but at the party, everyone rejected us (except for Gale, he is desperate but I turned him down). I'm supposed to have a fling with Lae-Zael, but still, she left me waiting.
On a restart we noticed that if one of us is dark urge, but the other isn't, a lot of inconsistencies can happen. The game tends to mix the decisions all players do in weird ways. Yesterday we finally realized what was up. We were actually the same character in a weird way.
