Was anyone else disappointed by the size of the city?
The city of Baldur's Gate was broken down into like 7 different areas in the original game. Now its just 2 maps, one of them being quite small. I loved my runthrough of the game and plan to do a few more, but I was expecting a lot more out of the big city. The upper city gets mentioned a few times and you can even find the bridge to it, but you never get to go there.

Nope, not dissapointed, plenty of content put into the two.

Yeah Apparently Sven was actually talking about upper city being part of the game so it is disappointing we don't get to explore the city more fully. Unless that was just people trolling, which with this board is perfectly possible. Maybe there's hope for a definitive edition, but I'm not so certain. Larian tends to fix and add more content to existing areas, but I don't remember them adding significant number of new areas to their games.

I have over 40 hrs in the BG city and still finding new stuff. A lot of content is hidden and the player needs to explore to find it.

it looks like the upper city was cut from the game, and the endings are very crumpled and compressed. I hope that Larian will not abandon it like this and will make an expanded city of Baldur's Gate with a full-fledged city and with more elaborate endings

Yeah, it looks like the Upper City was apparently cut from the game, so I am a bit disappointed. I do think it has a good amount of content, but it could have been better. I don't care about it not having "7 different areas" - I feel it would have been plenty if we simply got the Upper City and a little more polish on the Lower City and Sewer sections. After all, we have Wyrm's Crossing, the Lower City, the Sewers, the whole Bhaalite section, and then unique sub-locations like the prisons or the Wizard's Tower.

Lot of ♥♥♥♥ was cut. If you look at past Larian games its same story.
Definitive editions ussually only adds in a few quests/changes some systems and bug fixes.
Dont expect most if any of the lost stuff to be added.

Yea I just found another thread and it looks like a ton of stuff was cut. I didn't need 7 different maps to make up the city but the upper city was definitely talked about and when I realized I was not going to go there I got pretty bummed out. I did just about everything there is to do in the lower city and still wanted more.

Any bigger and it will takes a long time to finish just a single play through. City is big enough already. :lunar2019piginablanket:

Yeah, it really needs the upper city.

i've done most of the side quests and a few of the end companion quests.

so far everything has turned out okay after some save scumming to fix some bugs i encountered.

however, it does really feel like some things are missing and/or not working correctly. im gonna wait for a major patch or two and finish the game up then.

there are quite a few references to the upper city or at the very least people from there that don't seem to pan out so it does seem like it was cut.

I just didnt like how theres not just 1 big map for the entire city, instead of the zones.

I spent over 60 hours in the city. DId everything I could find. Still wanted more, and a change of scenery. A lot of the companion quests seem to have gotten butchered too, seems a lot of it would have been set in the upper city.

I'm not saying I need 7 separate areas either. But I was definitely expecting at least the upper city. The lower city map is great, its got the docks and shops and inns and such but I thought I'd get to explore the some mansions and guildhalls and stuff too. I figured Astarion's story line would have taken us there being that he was supposedly an aristocrat from the upper city. If they hadn't mentioned anything about it in the lead up to launch I would probably be less disappointed.

I feel a couple of the companion quests fall apart towards the end as well and I'm guessing its because they had components that would have taken place in the upper city. Theres a thread about some datamined content on here and that seems to be the case. Karlach's arc in particular got really butchered it seems.

Yeah, I think a lot of us also were expecting the Upper City because that is something that the developers heavily implied would be playable (there are hints in-game to this effect also). Plus certain companions you get so late into the game that without an Upper City or similar content to put them through, you basically have no chance to see their story.

Hopefully they mostly finished the Upper City and just had to cut it for launch, and will include it and maybe some tweaks to companion stories (like Astarion and Karlach) in an update at some point.
