How do I get Vulkan?
I understand that the game was made with Vulkan in mind, not Directx11. Is there a good way to get Vulkan? Legally and safely, of course. Forgive my ignorance of these matters.

You can download it at the same place where you download RAM

you select it on Larians launcher if you are using steam to skip that launcher you wont be able to access it.
from what i hear BG3 atm on Vulkan is pretty unstable compared to DX11

Heads up I get a lot less crashes on DX11

I have an Nvidia GPU and am running this on Windows 10. I suppose there's a better API for each system, but I'll take that into account with Vulkan. If it doesn't work well with that, then DirectX11 was still better, even with the current crashes, which for me are like, once an hour. Used to be perfectly fine for several hours, no crashes whatsoever.

ive crashed once in 140 hours in dx11.

I restarted the PC and after another 2 hours, no crash. I could start and shut down the game without any real issues. Got a little slow towards the end of it, but I think that was just my PC.

I installed the game using Vulkan (afaik automatic install or something), and the game runs smoothly which is fun.

Vulkan is just a different way to display graphics.

It seems to work better if you have a newer AMD graphics card.

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, DX11 is probably better for you.

Vulkan is just an API, similar to DX12 but more open source friendly and in part developed/funded by AMD.

Currently DX11 is more stable (since it's old and well known by now) while Vulkan should give you better performance but it tends to crash more currently.

I have a AMD graphics card and running Vulkan and have not had any crashed yet with it. Runs smoothly for me.

For me it crashes a lot more then DX11 on my 7900XTX, while it really shouldn't.

I'm waiting for driver updates.

Same - 6800XT running Vulkan with no crashes.

You can use either one. No need to download or install anything. Depending on the rest of your system you may get more or less performace. Vulkan takes some of the work normally done by the gpu and offloads it to the cpu, which can improve performace in some systems. Personally I find I get a higher, but less stable framerate with Vulkan. I use DX11 and lock it to 60fps. Until I get to the city, where I have to lock it to 30fps sadly. The dropped frames in the busy areas in the late game are insane and the only way to get it playable for me is to lock it to 30 so youre not seeing the massive drops all the time.

Yea I've been noticing better performance with DX11, but feel free to try both and see what works for you.
