Scratch and the ability to summon him gone... where?
My paladin was just starting to bond with our best boy (he'd bought me a bone, we'd played some fetch and he accompanied me on 1-2 forays) when I noticed that he was no longer with my party, and moreso that the ability icon to 'summon scratch' was no longer in my menu bar.

Anyone know why? While I was keeping him out of combat, I'm assuming that like other summons he can't perma die. Is this correct?

If so, is it because the owl bear cub joined my camp? I guess it's plausible that PCs (not including NPC familiars) may only be allowed one custom summon. Is this the case? Not that I'm at the summon stage with the owl bear cub yet anyway.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated, especially as this is my wholesome 'good guy' play through. Not sure if my next dark urge necro or warlock playthrough is going to include the wonder pooch.

Check your spellbook?

Maybe talk to withers whether he found a dead dog to resurrect.

I'm pretty sure you need to keep his ball in the inventory to ba able to summon him

The dog doesn't have perma-death. He fought for me for a long time.

I had both Owlbear and Scratch for a good chunk of the game. They become friends.

Until I visited someone, failed a check, and Scratch was locked up.

The key thrown away.

Are you in Act 3 perhaps? If you are and walked in a certain building then Scratch's ownership automatically passes to an NPC. You can get him back from them.

If scratch is still in your camp, but the icon to summon him disappeared:
- hit the full spellbook (by default that's "k" IIRC). hit the "common" tab. you should see the summon scratch spell there. just drag it back into your hotbar.

Thanks for the answers all. No option to resummon, in my spell book or anywhere else. Have talked to Withers several times since Scratch dissapeared and he doesn't come up.

I have a ball in my inventory, but I'm not sure if it was the original one or one I picked up along the way. Was the one Scratch brings you unique in anyway, e.g. called 'Scratch's Ball' or something?

I wish there'd been a cutscene or other event connected to his dissapearance. Then at least I'd have some idea where to go back to in order to search for him. :(

I'm only in Act 2 atm, so it's not tied to anything BG related.

He's not in my camp, nor is the icon to summon him anywhere to be found.

I guess I'll just push on with this playthrough and hope he reappears. Sad that my good hearted paladin won't get to provide the nice companionship to Scratch, seeing as my next PC is going to be a real nasty piece of work.

Yeah it seems you are screwed if you dont have that ball anymore... i got 4 balls none seem to be the correct one which should have an action on it LOL.

They better fix this. It happened to me to after the Act III Kennel thing

Doesn't the owl bear cub eat the dog if both are present? Not immediately, I don't think, but eventually?

For some reason, Wyll stole the ability to summon Scratch away from me (I could summon him at first, but I guess he took ownership after a long rest), which is a shame since I don't even use him in my party

the kennel quest removes the summon "temporarily" for w/e reason. it will come back the next time Scratch has an "event" on resting (so the next time he brings you something)

I still have the summon scratch icon, and did even without a ball in my inventory. He's still in my camp too. I'm quite sure the ball currently in my inventory isn't the original one, but he's been in my camp, even when I'm not carrying a ball.

It's possible to lose Scratch in act 3 if you go into a certain yard in the village outside BG, if you choose the wrong dialog options and do poorly on your rolls when conversing. Is this a possibility? If so, maybe test it by reloading a save to earlier in act 3.

I even went back and re-purchased any balls I accidentally sold in BG/Rivington + Scratch had an event (exclamation mark above his head) where he brought me a bone but still no way to summon. Tried throwing a ball for him, resting short/long, reloaded, restarted the game, etc. and there's no skill to resummon him despite him being in my camp.

Any ideas?

this probably won't help at all but I always have his summon greyed out until I walk around a bit then I can summon him again.

Need's to specifically be an item called "Scratche's Ball" to regain his summon.
