Is gale worth it
I came up with the solution of running a thief/rogue. I was originally gonna do an oath breaker/ warlock
warlock fighter
tempest cleric pally
and a light domain cleric wizard

but gale is just gonna have to be a rogue if I pick him and get his own items. I've seen the spoilers concerning him if you get on his bad side or ignore him/kill him. But I havent delved into the benefits of having him as a companion. So to whoever finished the game with him, was it fun enough to feed this liability? xD

On first glance all the stuff ive seen from gale is great. He adds a lot of flavor to the campaign but having to find fodder for him is so annoying. lol so maybe im being too closed minded and thought I should ask for a second opinion or just never meet him.

you only need to find a few items you dont care for him, he will stop asking later on. and there's loads of items that are trash

You only "feed" him 3 times. There's plenty of junk magical items you'll never use. For example, early on you get plenty of cantrip specific items. If you use Shadowheart, you don't need an extra "guidance." Similar with light canaries or class specific like bard.

I enjoy Gale, he fits my team well cause he is my aoe burst damager. I pair him with OoTaPaladinTav, Shadowheart and Astarion.
I didn't even know this wizard exist until I read on Gamers+ or something apprently hes stuck in that broken arcana teleport glyph by the Nautiloid Crash Site

I hate Gale, personally.
He's a little bit better than Nere, but it's damn close. I just leave him in the rock these days.
You can tune up one of the other characters to be a wizard if you need one, or you can roll with a hireling if you're not a wizard yourself.

im at the last act of the game and i only ever gave him two items so yeah, if you want to use him go for it him needing item doesn't last long for story reasons.

Not only is he worth it as just a fun companion, but the demands from him are so slight that it's not really an issue.

If anything, I think it's a little refreshing to have a scenario where you actually have to sacrifice *anything* to keep a companion happy and healthy. Wish it were more common in game.

Like, there's basically no logical reason (at least not early on that we see) for Lae'Zel to stay with us as we meander around a Druid circle, a forest, a swamp, a toll house, and random spider-infested caves instead of her just going right to her destination. If we were given some sort of ultimatum to hurry there besides "the story says so", it would be a more interesting dynamic.

If you don't have another wizard, gale is very versatile since he can learn from the scrolls you get. I multiclassed him with some levels of storm sorc to get at least some metamagic started. Gonna wait a few more levels of wiz before I go back to sorc.

Gale is great, he definitely has a lot of interactions that are worth it.
On my second playthrough he is the only character from my first party that I recruited again.

Combat? Yes. Banging? Also.

He is still in his rock in my current playthrough. If I want a mage I will hire one from withers, but really Shadow is doing passably well.

ty guys, i didnt know about i wouldnt have to keep feeding him more than a couple of times. I know there's trash magic items, but i didnt want to stress it in the middle of the game and be like, " oh sorry cant continue with this act 2 quest! gale is hungy"! <3

but now ill keep him. :3

You get so many trash magic items in the long run, giving him a few isn't a big deal

How is that happening? You feed him 3 junky items you have little use for, and he stops asking. In Act 1. 1st playthrough, it was somewhat annoying, I admit. But pretty short in duration. And he's funny. Especially if you play durge & romance him. Plus he's a pretty killer mage. If I were DIY-ing a wizard, I'd probably make one a lot like him. Minus the College Professor dialogue, which I'm not sure would be as entertaining.

He stops asking after 2 or 3 items and after some time you can meet his mentor on the way to shadowlands thru mountain pass (that's how i did it, idk if hes anywhere else) and he comes to gale and pauses the "bomb" but the interaction is quite sad so you don't really need to worry about that, there are a lot of trash magic items and theres maybe only 4 actually useful ones in act 1, most good stuff you'll get later on or in the creche and from vendors. Just try it out, he's pretty great :)
