Is throwing javelins (or other trown weapons) bugged?
I really like the idea of a ranged strength based character, so I've found that Eldritch Knights make this pretty simple by bonding to a weapon so it comes back to your hand when you throw it... this saves you from carring like 10 javelins in your inventory, but even better, if you have a +1 one, you can always use that one.

The problem is, for what I've seen non of the "on hit" properties of magical items applies on throw... and that's a bummer, because it seems nothing beats a simple +1 javelin... there are lots of interesting properties in lots of weapons, and none applies when thrown...
Even the reward for saving the girl from the town in fire, which lets you chose 3 different weapons that generate lightning charges. I chose the trident, in order to be able to throw it, and no lightning charge is generated.
Is this a bug or is it intended?

I also noticed throwing javelins don't get any benefits of ranged attacks, nor melee attacks, so you can't use archery fighting style, nor duelist, nor even the bonus for 2 handed weapons if you happen to throw a 2 handed weapon...

Also, when starting a battle by throwing my +1 javelin, sometimes it doesn't comes back to my hand, so I have to be sure to start with another character, and once my javelin thrower is already in the fight, then I can start throwing safely.

These issues are very annoying, and makes you want to just fire crossbows with higher dice, more magic properties applied, but it nullifies the idea of the ranged strenght character...

And I don't only mean like unique magic properties... Propierties as simple as having +1d4 fire damage don't apply... even if you dip your javelin in fire, and you can see the property in your weapon, it doesn't apply when thrown

In Act II you can get Lightning Jabber, a spear that has +1d4 Lightning on throw.
In Act III you can get a legendary trident with +3d4 Thunder AOE, but it doesn't work in low-ceilinged rooms.

throwing is broken so it doesn't need anymore on hit effects it does too much damage on it's own. Even more so if you do it from high ground...due to falling bonus damage
Edit:(probably one extra bug in a line of many...)

and the system is half made UI wise...

The best ways to improve throwing:

Act 1 Ring: +1d4 throwing
Act 1 Gloves: +1d4 throwing
Act 1 Pike: Returns to user when thrown
Act 3 Trident: Returns to user when thrown

Feat: Tavern Brawler - Adds STR modifier to attack and damage a second time
Berserker: Enraged Throw - throws knock enemies prone and deal Rage damage bonus, can use throw as a Bonus Action

With all of those combined you do absolutely absurd damage.

it seems any effect that requires it to be equipped doesn't work cause the moment you throw it it is out of your hand.

that said, anything with an extra dice roll still seems to apply (like if it had 1d4 ice on it)

Does it not specify melee attacks? I recall thinking the same thing for my str thrower but I thought I read it was melee attacks that generated lightning charges. It's been a while so maybe I am wrong.

Yeah, I've been experiencing this too. If it's intended that's fair enough (though it doesn't really make sense if that's the case), but it'd be appreciated if it said somewhere that additional effect of weapons didn't apply when being thrown.

The wording on that spear is "When the wielder deals damage using this weapon, they gain 2 Lightning Charges."

i think the semantic here is that its not being "weld" when its flying through the air.
