Just finished the game as good Dark Urge [NO SPOLIERS]
Let me just say that this game story is absolute masterpiece. Its been so long since I played a game with story this good. I did get annoyed with combat being so long and buggy which caused me to change into story mode at the beggining of the Act 3 but still the game overall is amazing. I kinda wished that there was a epilogue at the end Like in Divinity 2 or Dragon Age Origins but maybe we will have it in the future.

Now back to the topic, Dark Urge IS NOT a evil playthrough origin character. You still can get the best ending in the game. Sure you can be evil but Its totally possible to play as Dark Urge while being good and kind to others. In fact the game encourages you to play as DU while resisting the urges. I played half of the game as custom human character and decided to make a new save as Default Dark Urge Dragonborn named Paarthurnax and thats probably the best decision I have ever made. The DU story has a lot of throwbacks to older Baldurs gate games so if you are fan of those you HAVE to play as him. I have never seen tragic hero story this well written since Red Dead Redemption 2 some scenes had me even emotional. The romance has few special scenes but I dont want to spoil anything. All im saying is that if you didnt played the game yet or you are thinking about 2nd playtrough you HAVE to play as DU, not playing as him feels like you are missing out on a lot of content in the game. The Jaheira and Minsc have a lot of new dialogue. Only thing that is not possible as good DU is to become a Slayer.

Now a small warning, there is only ONE scene where you can't ressist the urge at the beggining of the game which can be a dealbreaker for some and it is gutting Alfira at the first night at the camp in your sleep, it can be heartbreaking and shocking but she is not a important story character so you are not missing that much also you can fell remorse or regret in dialogue and it was mine main motivation to be good. There is also a wisdom 14 dice roll If you romance someone and you refused to kill Isobel at the end of ACT 2 and not passing it will make your character snap. But there is a lot of ways that you can pass this by simply save scumming or rerolling dice by inspiration. Other than that you have total control over your character with extra dialogue and intresting backstory.

Also I forgot to mention that DU can be customized just like a custom character. but the most fitting race is probably a Dragonborn or Human that is a Rouge but I played as Warrior/Mage so play whatever you want, even a halfling if you want.

I so want to do this. As a human cleric. With Ilmater as my deity. Act as much as what would be considered "lawful good" as possible.
As an old BG player I already have an idea where that urge may come from. While that memory loss thing reminds me more of other games, there was one scene in BG2 where you better explore the asylum alone and stay away from your group, because you suddenly turn into "The Slayer" and if any of your companions are near, you will attack them
(Wish me luck that I'll find a way to get rid of the lag and stuttering I experience... still in the Prologue because of this.)

I did kind of wonder if there's really much to gain going full custom vs custom dark urge. Feels like dark urge will just open more more dialog options so the only thing you lose is personal RP and the background being stuck to medicine + intimidation

What I loved about the Dark Urge is the fact that there is so much dialogue that you can show regret and remorse for your actions and Red Dead Redemption 2 was mine favorite game so i love stories of bad guy becoming good. Also the Act 3 has so many plot twists if you play as Dark Urge that i cant imagine myself replaying the game not as him.

It is so good, it is definitely worth to shout it to everyone who have missed it.

Also, more dialogue means also more voiceover. The narrator does an awesome job with the eerie atmosphere, and the additional character... well, the heartbreaking scene remains unforgetable.

All I can say without spoilng anything is that before Dark Urge lost his memories he was a VERY very bad person like Really really bad so being Lawfull is not really possible. But being Neutral good or Chaoitc good fits really well. Also playing as Cleric or Paladin may not make sense from story perspective but if you dont care about it then do whatever you want. You could always change class in middle of the game to RP that your character tries to become good so it made an oath to become Paladin or Cleric.
Me, after having played a campaign with custom character and another with Dark Urge, I will not play custom again.

Dark Urge's story is very, very well written, and you really get the feeling that your character is inside the plot of the game. Also, it's a plus if you've played the original BG (I already knew where the plot would go, and even so there were many moments that surprised me).

I recommend Dark Urge 100% for the first campaign.
I am planning on making a Dark Urge Oath of Devotion Paladin.

my goal is to resist. But what I want to know is if I just need to avoid making choices that would result in murder, or are there enough times throughout the game, if any, where if the rolls don't go well I could actually become an oathbreaker paladin?

I want to know is if there is enough randomness in the game for the Dark Urge that one actually don't know what is going to happen to their character simply because the rolls didn't do what they wanted the rolls to do?

I hope this makes sense.

That's all you needed to write. That sums it up for me.

Not the bugs, but length of combat, the difficulty, and the sheer amount of it.

There is no way that everyone is going to finish this game. A huge piece of the pie won't even bother. Even if they turn it down to Explorer difficulty.

Their brains will fry.

minimal spoilers... there are exactly 2 instances of "forced" urge 1 you have 0 say in short of Killing yourself before the deed simply to prevent YOU from killing them (but that requires meta knowledge) and 2 you can make a wisdom save though i want to say it was DC30? all others are by your own choice (minus a squirrel if no Talk to animals)

you the player with some metaknowledge(and potential save scum on the 2nd) are never FORCED to kill anyone as an DU well.. again apart from the squirrel if no talk to animals active lol

I went full slayer mode but at the end I have made good decision. I liked how complex my character was. Something like: Sometimes the world doesnt need another hero, it needs a monster.

Well, how can i say it... I'm playing as a DU Bard Gnome... And it's super funny. XD
It's my second playthrough, and I'm taking advantage of every situation I know it will happen.

I like the touch where there's a pattern on the ground if you watch the Dark Urge origin intro.

A familiar pattern

Yeah, this game is a masterpiece. It has its quirks and needs fixing in some areas, but overall it is incredible. I too would love for an actual epilogue, like what they have many other games, but the overall experience is extraordinary.
