Is it just me, or are tempest clerics ridiculously good?

I made Shadowheart a tempest cleric after realizing I barely used her trickery domain abilities (might try a trickery / rogue multiclass on a different playthrough, though).

Holy crap, this subclass is good. Like, stupidly good. Heavy armor proficiency, martial weapon proficiency, fantastic AoE spells, and a reaction that allows you to guarantee a max damage roll? I fought the gnolls near the Zhentarim shipment and Shadowheart literally one-shot all of them with a single Shatter (though that may have just been good RNG because they all failed their saving throws).

So basically tempest clerics can tank, do fantastic damage with spells, do decent damage with weapon attacks, and still get access to all the usual cleric stuff like Guiding Bolt, Spirit Guardians, and Healing Word.

- Use your free action to drop a water bottle from your inventory next to enemies
- Use your bonus action to explode the water bottle with a hand crossbow offhand attack to make them wet
- Use Glyph of Warding (Lightning), max your damage roll on Lightning, for 80 damage to all them wet enemies

Turn 1 victory. Who needs a Light Cleric's weak Fireball when you double that damage ♪

I'm curious about making Shadowheart into a Tempest Cleric.
Did you notice any changes to her usual dialogue or story line from doing so?

None of companions change their dialogue if you change their class. With only exception if you control them while in dialogue, class specific dialogue options will be available.

The stories of the origin characters are not changed by which class you make them. It does change what dialogue options are available to you if you start conversations as that character.

If you run around as a Barbarian Shadowheart eventually you'll see Barbarian diagloue options instead of Cleric, but her story remains unchanged.

From my testing Glyph of Warding doesn't work with Destructive Wrath. The prompt activates, but the damage doesn't become maximized. Still a great damage spell against wet targets though.

yeah and call lightning giving you sustained 3d10 dmg every turn with even more on wet enemies. Imagine if we had rain spell

So.. Create Water exists as a Cantrip for one of the Wizard subclasses IIRC.
So you could probably force things to be wet whenever you want if you tried lol
