how do I pause a game during a dialogue/cutscene?
I had to go away for a phone call but couldn't pause a dialogue, even opening the option menu the voice was still playing in the background. When I came back I was faced with a bunch of choices for which I don't understand the context.

So any way to pause the game?

You can't. But you can display the conversation log and see what has been said.

Not until you have to make a choice. However, your can read the dialogue from your journal before making the choice.

cool thanks, but don't understand why is there no pause feature in a single player game. Makes no sense.

Reading through the text will give me the context, but it sucks compared to being able to watch a live scene with voice etc.

I've never seen a game that allowed you to pause during a cinematic.

You're talking about cinematics like a pre-rendered CG, these don't exist in BG3 outside the cinematic trailer. We are talking about in-game cutscenes here, and pretty much all single player games I've played allows you to pause during them,

Which are cinematics until you get to the manual choice.

these are cutscenes. Which single player games have you played that don't allow you to pause during a gameplay cutscene? In most games pausing a cutscene is the exact same thing as pausing during gameplay, as in you press the menu key.

LOL wtf it would have been far easier to name the ones that don't have this feature, but ok just to name few off the top of my head
All Assassin's Creed games I've ever played
Assassin's Creed 1, 2, 3, Black Flag, Unity, Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla
Cyberpunk 2077
Hitman 1, 2, and 3
Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West
Fallout 4
Nioh 1 and 2
Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 remake
Skyrim
Strangers of Paradise
The Witcher 3
Wo Long Fallen Dynasty

How about you name some that don't let you do that other than Fromsoft games which always made the braindead decision to now allow you to pause in their single player games.

yeah being able to pause the game so you dont miss out on an amazing cutscene is an important thing to me as well, what if somone knocks on your door, what if the baby is crying, what if your boss calls, your cat is choking to death, some db hits your mail box, your oven is on fire ect, I guess its f-you player, just miss out on cutscene because of real life sh*t I guess...

yeah never liked single player games that doesn't let you pause for whatever stupid reason, like all the Fromsoft games. Do they seriously believe everyone who play their games are hardcore gamers who sit on their ass all day with a piss bottle and not have any real life responsibilities that would force them to walk away from the couch constantly?
I hope in this case it's just an oversight because the rest of the game being turn-based doesn't really need a pause feature, and they just forgot about the cutscenes.
