Guys, what is 5e? And the C in CRPG?
I'm new to turn based RPGs, in the last years I tried some like South Park, Yakuza 7, Honkai and Front Mission. Now I love turn based. I see Baldur's Gate is more complex, people call its kind CRPG and they've mentioned something called 5e. Could you guys explain?
Thanks

5e is the Dungeon and Dragons rule set that the game is using,.

5E is the current edition of Dungeons and Dragons tabletop RPG. It's relatively newbie friendly but there are friendlier games out there. C stands for Computer, and it is actually a genre.

One starts with a 'C'.

CRPGs tend to be specifically isometric viewpoint, point and click movement etc. Basically, like BG3, Pillars of Eternity, Shadowrun, Disco Elysium.
RPG would be everything outside that, such as Witcher 3.

5e = 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons ruleset (though this uses a modified version, which you'll often see called homebrew rules)

usually when people talk about crpgs they mean western, turn based rpgs from isomethric perspective
and rpg... nowadays the genres are so blurry, pretty much any game can be called this... it's kinda, if you see it you know it and whether something is rpg or x with rpg elements depends on how close a game is to other games someone considers to be rpgs

Yes, they turned that AWFUL reboot of Tomb Raider into an "RPG", but just because TR is about archaeological adventure, doesn't mean it's RPG at all. (stupid Square Enix)

But adding RPG elements to a game makes it infinitely better, just look at Ubisoft and their amazing titles for the last 5 years. ;)

RPG can include tabletop RPGs (TTRPGs) like Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, etc. These were the original RPGs that predated video games, and where video game RPGs came from.

Video game RPGs are often called CRPGs, ARPGs (action RPGs) or JRPGs (Japanese RPGs - although it's a specific style of RPG, not just any RPG from Japan) to make it clear you're taking about a video game.

I've heard that most turn based games even not Japanese are popularly called JRPGs and even real time combat Japanese games like Dark Souls are not necessarily JRPGs. A bit confusing at first. But now I get the difference between JRPG and CRPG.

Yes, Dark Souls is an RPG from a Japanese dev, but it's not a JRPG. JRPG is really more of a style of game versus being purely about country of origin. Japan is the country where the JRPG style originated.
