Are we even supposed to use Alchemy Intensely / often or not ?

How does one farm materials if you cant go back and stuff does not respawn?
I'm 100 hours into the game. Collected almost everything that i could find. There is not seller for it

saving till now i can only make
7 Potion of healing
1 Greater
3 Superior
and 1 Supreme.
Some bombs use the same materials same with elixirs. So not many here

What is the point of alchemy if even on a full playthrough i dont have materials to make more than 5 potions.
I dont have materials for any Sublimates, Salts, Essences, Ashes, Vitriol and Suspension.

So what is the point ?

I very early into act 1 crafted 34 potions of speed in one go, as an "oh ♥♥♥♥ things are going wrong" button.
I still have most of them in act 3 (tactician), and mostly use them to correct tactical mistakes I made.

Did you not pick up the herbs throughout your playthrough?

I grab anything i can get my hands on and i barely even use it.
Soon i be level 5 and i can spamm fireball.

I don't really bother with alchemy anymore.

Yes you can get some helpfull potions but then again you need a looot of materials for them.

Just way easier to buy them if you see them at a trader, i ended the game with over 30K.

Idk, I use Alchemy constantly and have such an absurd stock of potions that I barely use healing magic any more.

Act 1 and i can craft 9 haste pots and a bunch of other things. idk, seems you just weren't picking up things or your materials bugged out and the crafting menu isn't pulling materials from other companions. try putting all materials in one bag on one character

If you hold Left Alt (I think that's the key, I remapped mine to Space Bar) you can see things on the ground you can pick up. Doesn't show everything, but it does show the various plants you can grab.

i picked almost everything that i could. well i didnt pick everysingle herb but damn i thought i would have more

I can craft every single Potion, elixir, grenades and coatings.
I just cannot craft them in big quantity. Mostly one (the ones that are not required for another recipes)

I noticed that merchants sell quite a lot of the materials needed so you aren't dependent on what you can find around the world.

I mostly use it for speed pots. I have made so many speed pots now it's insane. I think they will last me til the end of the game and beyond.

Damn that is true, merchants do sell some materials although not much. I've neglected them because i thought there were a huge amount of alchemy mats in the wild.

On the material availability in the wild point, I can say that I feel like there is plenty of ingredients everywhere.
On the usability of alchemy, I'd say it is... ok. It soesn't seem like a big part of the game. It can be useful to complement your inventory, but you can just buy potions also. I feel like it is just a remnant of their Divinity Orginal Sin game. but it doesn't seem to be a core part of the BG3 experience.

Obviously the usefulness of alchemy will depend on your group, strategy, and possibly difficulty level. IF your group is light on casters, you may find the potions to be more useful.

And ingredients generally become more common as you go, so your potion creation will ramp up if you choose to use alchemy.
