Considering how much is story relevant, why does the Origin not matter?
At least make an origin that doesn't have stakes in Baldur's Gate then.
I would have been fine with a Neverwinter Noble origin. Rolling its eyes everytime the bourgeoisie pretend to do something sophisticated.
If you had a multiplayer game with more than one person with the same background it'd be weird if you both got the same background related quest, so there's no background quests to stop that issue happening.
That's just a missed opportunity.
I understand why it doesn't have an effect, but then it should have been an origin that doesn't interfere with THE MAIN QUEST.
Origin BALDURIAN FISHMONGER isn't a problem when dealing with Gortash, Ravenguard, Florrick etc.
Why the hell did they get my (or our) expectations up with Baldurian Noble for NOTHING relevant to happen?
The moment Astarion said: "Clearly we move in different circles" it was clear that this is going to be problem for my roleplaying experience. Easily avoided problem, I don't understand why nobody bothered taking a bit more care with the custom backgrounds.
