As An old school player I hate how wizards completely retconned them into their own playable race.
Up until late 4th edition they were a transformation you could undergo as a follower of bahamut or tiamat available to any race (yes we had pint sized gnome and halfling dragonborn)
Part of the transformation was becoming sterile and bound to a gods edicts but the trade offs you got in longevity, abilities etc... were really nice.
If I were to make one however Paladin/sorcerer would likely be the way I would go.
