Nope I’ve killed 2 of them and 2 others dumped me. That said she’s one hell of a fighter so I wouldn’t recommend killing her.

You have all the freedom you want in this game.

Also you can start a new game after finishing a playthrough and see all the other possible permutations, so have as much fun as you can.

No, you can kill everyone.

Not bad at all, just the origin characters have storylines throughout the game. If you don't have them, they're not part of the main story / you don't get to see their story (or deal with this problems).

They just represent different threads of game content/story, you can play with all of them or none.

It depends the character, you don't need any of them but 2 of them have ties to major story elements that you'll miss a lot by not having them.

But technically it's impossible to go everyone's stories in one play so you have to do multiple plays with different people

How is it impossible? I still have a few left to wrap up but as far as I can tell I'm on track to do exactly that.

Most of the companions have ties to main story one way or the another. They also have their own great stories with quests. They change over the course of the story and you can affect them. So yes, they are quite important. You will miss out on a lot of stuff if you kill them or not take them with you.

Having certain characters in your parties gets alternate quests, and not having characters in your party at certain events means you miss quest triggers

IE if you didn't have gale and minthara in your party during the keth fight, you missed a huge side quest with them. And you can't do that at same time as the gale only story which requires gale but not minthara.

What? You can have them both with you at the same time. The only decission that out right blocks you from another companion is in act 1. You either get Minthara and loose 3 other companions. Or you loose her and retain others.

I'm saying if you have both, you get a different trigger than if you only had gale

Important? Yes.
Mandatory? No.

They got nice quests/stories. Abilities to help you in certain scenarios/scenes involving their own kind or whatever is connected with them.
You need party members for easyer combat.

Lizard Lazy is considered S tier, like one of your best companions in terms of fighting. Shame you killed her.

eh... no? you dont. You are not missing anything aside mb some banter between companions in the cutscenes or out of them. But this is standard in those kind of games. Different party compositions have different banter. But it does not block you from progressing their quest lines.

The only mutual exclusive characters are Halsin vs Minthara.

The companions have side quests that more or less tie in to the story. But none of them are required.

nope.
You also have one for Astarion in act3.
If you pick that one guy, Astarion will leave.

You also have a chance to kill lizard lady during quests and her beliefs twice.
Same for shadowheart.
The other ones arent as emo.
