Can't use torch slot
Trying to put a torch in the torch slot for easy access on my player character (a monk equipped with a quarterstaff if that matters) and the slot on my inventory won't accept the torch. I also can't use the Toggle Light Source button with the torch in my inventory. Why is this? The game won't tell me and google searches turn up mostly posts form 2 years ago asking the devs for a torch slot.

For the record, Shadowheart has a mace and a shield equipped and she can use her torch slot, so I doubt it's that I have a single versatile weapon equipped.

Torch Slot Item remain in the Inventory.

On Your Class Symbol on the Quickbar (left end of quickbar) there is several buttons below.

One of them is to Switch between Weapon and Torch.
Pressing it switches the Weapon to inventory and the Torch to your hand.

Oh. And sometimes if You Sold a Torch that was in there it wont automaticly use the next.
So give all torches to someone else and then send them back so they update.

Unless the rest of the party is human you don't really need torches.
Shadowheart has darkvision and there is a ring you can give Gale that grants darkvision in Act I.

I don't recall running in this specific issue but I do have issues where I have to repeatedly try equipping other items

Yeah, the problem is this works on all my party members except for my player character.

As for not really needing a torch, I agree most of the time, but having a torch is important for a chunk of the game in Act 2 for reasons I can't say without giving away some spoilers. I incur debuffs if I don't equip one.
