Will "new Game" delete the main save file? (Family Sharing)
Maybe someone can help me out on this.
I borrowed the game through Steam from someone who owns it, and created my own Larian Account. Yet, when I login with my own account, i can only access my friend's save file. so what happens if i press "new game" instead of "continue"? i definitely don't want to delete my friend's save file because i don't think you'll be asked again if you want to overwrite the old save file.
is there any way to have two separate savefiles?

Thanks for any advice

If you press "new game" instead of "continue" your character and progress will be saved in a separate campaign, easy to distinguish. It will not overwrite your friend's progress in any way.

The "issue" you encounter is because of the game not differentiating between who is logged in or not. All save games on a Windows user are located at the same place.

You have two options to have your own "savegames separated" from your friend's

option A, launch the game directly from the executable using a different Windows profile as described here
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3020212758

option B, launch the game twice via the executable while Steam is off, as described here https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3015842445
the second instance of the game will go into a debug profile which you can use as your own, when that happens - you will notice by reset tutorial messages and EULA prompt - you can close the first instance with the main profile

Using a launcher or a Larian Account or a Steam Account is not required for what you wish to do. Happy adventuring! :mhwgood:

I have multiple characters, each character has it's own save file. I would maybe ask a friend to back his save file up, just incase. But it should just create a new save file.

I had this same question a while ago, because I have issues of playing many different characters at once in these types of game! But I was told that games are saved under your character's name. So I tried it out, and its true. So just make sure you don't use the same character name!
