How do you increase dmg for sword abilities?
So I'm a fighter so I'm using swords, but how do you increase the dmg for the abilities which comes with the sword? Getting a sword with higher dmg isn't increasing the dmg for it.

Strength, increments of 2 after 10 give a +1 bonus.
So, if you have Strength of 20, you have +5. Unless finesse, which uses Dexterity or if you're a Warlock Pact of blade, which uses Charisma.

Some abilities don't have a damage increase, it depends on the ability.

So getting a sword with more dmg won't increase the dmg for the abilities?

Add potions and dip it in various liquids.

Weapons in DnD increase by +1 modifiers.
So if you have sword with X damage, and find another sword with X damage, that won't change the damage.

However if you have sword with X damage, but find a Sword+1/+2, it should increase damage with abilities. Some abilities with sword, like flourish, won't change damage though.

When you say if I have a sword with x damage, and find another sword with x damage, the second x damage doing more damage than the first x?

Weapons in D&D have the same damage depending on what they are no matter how special unless otherwise specified. All longswords are going to be 1d8 (1d10 two handed) plus your strength modifier. All rapiers will be 1d8 plus your dex modifier. All greatswords are gonna be 2d6 plus your strength modifier. etc, etc. Higher rarity weapons usually just have really cool effects or added damage buffs like fire or necrotic.

1. increase main stat like str or dex
2. find a weapon with +1
3. put on items like the ring which adds 2 acid dmg on attacks
4. use potions like hill giant str gives u more str so more dmg or/and poisons for more dmg/dice
5. add some spell buffs from ur caster to it like enlarge if u dont have perma haste (more attacks) as ur concentration spell active.

I still don't know what 1d8, 1d10, or 2d6. What do they mean?

thats the dmg dice. your weapons deal dmg with dice rolls not flat dmg. the skills u talk about are just small gimmiks, your main dmg is the actual normal attack and if u hit game rolls the dmg dice like 1d6 aka 1 6 sided dice. u should just mouse over the stuff in ur game :p

Damage is based on dice rolls.
1d8 means: 1 eight faced die roll, leading to damage being from 1 to 8
2d6 means : 2 dice rolls (six faced), leading to damaged from 2 to 12 (1 to 6 + 1 to 6)
