No. Unarmed attacks are not finesse. However, the shortsword is a finesse and a monk weapon. Maybe that works? I bet it does not, but you can try it out.

hmm so where is the point then in unarmed attacks as a Dex- monk?
mayrc Aug 19, 2023 @ 9:33am
Then a dex monk is a broken class? I was wondering since A quaterstaff counts as finesse weapon for a monk

if unarmed attacks were finesse, you wouldn't need to be a monk to use your dex for them. even then, you don't add the finesse feature to your unarmed attacks, you just gain a feature that does the same thing

It does not count as a finesse weapon. Monks get their DEX to attack and damage whenever they wield a monk weapon or go unarmed - if it is higher than their STR. So yes, you get DEX for the quarterstaff, but it is still not a finesse weapon for any other purpose.

dont get me wrong but maybe you have no Idea of the topic? Since i found now that in the Charakter creation it clearly said Unarmed and ALL weapons trained in are Finesse weapons for a monk.

The question now remains if duelist feat then is active with Unarmed

Monks use DEX or STR, so unarmed can be both afaik.

ahh ok that can make sense. So duelist doesnt work with unarmed. But it would with a short sword?

Monk's pretty balanced.

All weapons w/ proficiency that are not heavy or two handed are monk weapons.

All finesse weapons: https://hardcoregamer.com/db/bg3/all-finesse-weapons-in-baldurs-gate-3/458551/

That is the question. You can save, try it out and then see if it does. That one comes down to how it was implemented and can be found out only by trying it.

Thank you that helped and i guess it works as long as you use a natural dex-weapon.

Let us know if it worked, I am interested in the answer myself.

Quarterstaff still isn't finesse, I know you think it is. Idk where finesse weapons is coming from, they don't matter.

This is just a bonus trade-off for monk weapons (unarmed counts). https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Martial+Arts+Dextrous+Attacks

The point here is that it would get the Armorclass to hideous levels with a Monk. Far over any Warrior.
