Help (Minor Spoilers)

I am tearing my hair out!

I have completed the courtyard fight and am in the high halls and just get massacred by the nautiloid airstrikes. Even when not standing in the glowing rings I take damage, even worse when I am stunned. Protection from Fire spells seem worthless. The only online guide I can find on YouTube shows a cut-scene with dragons destroying the ship and no glowing targeting rings. I have tried both left and right hand pathways - right seems a dead end and left ends at a DC20 locked door which even picked swiftly leads to party wipe due to mind flayer stuns - I haven't survived either branch long enough to determine which one is the best/correct one to take. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated, or a link to a suitable walkthrough since I will be damned if I can find one using Google that addresses my issues.

Was this just for the sake of spoiling or... do you really take damage when you're outside the rings? That's either a bug or you're not seeing the rings properly.

That sounds really buggy. Maybe the ring locations are lagging? Try exiting to main menu or restarting the client completely. I haven't experienced anything like that.

[spoilers] Nope, still happening. Proximity damage even if I am about a metre outside of target radius. Only space I don't take airstrike damage is where reinforcements drop, which chucks my party into instadeath oblivion[/spoilers]

You may need to try and reload first. Then you need to race up. There's double-doors you open and inside is a Restoration Chamber, the illithid one with blue glowing tentacles. When you interact/get close to that it triggers a cut scene and you can stop worrying about the other stuff happening.
