But you can also speak to them in animal form not just via the spell "talk to animals"
But even then, Potions of Animal Speaking are plentiful enough for it to not be of much use, and the dialogues are too good to pass up in any case.

That sounds much more useful and honestly a bit closer to what you actually do with it in actual DnD ( To at least calm them down from fighting, heck I just basically did that in the campaign I played yesterday with dire wolves)
For sure, I took the speak with animals spell until i hit level 5 then switched spells for something more useful and just using the potions I found.
