but i used mine mainly for ranged dmg, went with assassin to lvl 5 and rest into gloomstalker ranger with dual hand crossbows and hes pumping out some good dmg.
in act 3 you can get the bes melee weapon for dex users, a rapier that can use a bonus action to hit again if you want to go the other subclass that gives you another bonus action.
idk if it was just me but playing rogue as melee was a bit hard because i did not find good ways to raise AC enough so he ended up dying alot so thats why i swapped to range
My other playthrough I'm just starting, I'll go dual wielding thief and see how that goes.

There is an awesome off-hand dagger in Act 1 in the Goblin Camp, for dual wielding. You can steal it from the wanna be sado-masochistic / cenobite. Pair it with whatever takes your fancy in your main hand. It does good damage and gives you some very nice combat adjustment, if you go the assassin route.
. . or re-spec as a full ranger / gloomstalker until you get the extra attack at level 5 before you multi-class to something else and just fire from a distance. Either is good.
