BG3 finale issue

Are you supposed to kill everything on the way up to the Brain stem?
I got my group up there, zoomed through the battlefield with flying and dimensional door, and keep getting 'Cant use that right now' Plenty of enemies left.

Looking around, it seems the issue is triggered by a party member dying on the way up there. Which was the case for me. So, starting it over tomorrow, too late to keep going, annoying bug.

I skipped a lot of mobs prior to the brain stem. Was no issues avoiding them in allowing me to move onward. Once on the brain I killed it all to not be annoyed by it (although more mobs came after the countdown). You have to have an action free to use the crystals on the specific brain part for the next step.

I stood before the brainstem, and kept getting you cant do that when trying to climb. going to start over as its clearly bugged. And I had actions.

Just guessing.

When you enter the area there is a brain steam you can see right in front of the door. You can not climb that spot. You go to the side and up the building to around the back and find a door. Once you enter that door you exit combat and can prepare for the climb. The stem can be climbed from there.

If you are trying to climb after passing through that door in the back and not being able, then I do not know.

make sure your ally (emperor/etc) is alive, I just had to walk though the double doors that were after the brain stem and the combat ended immediately and was able to climb up

I was at the door in the back on second floor, there was a restoration thingie. But i could not progress. Asterion was long dead, but everyone else was with me.

this just happened to my party - we had to load to the save before the initial battle at the base of the tower.

Walked into that area and when combat started there must have been 20+ enemies after 2 rounds. No thanks. Reloaded. Then I just ungrouped everyone and stealthed my way to the right of the courtyard just as you walk in and moved/jump past all those trash mobs. Dumb design decision to put a bunch of useless trash mobs that serve as nothing more than a time sink...since they have no chance of killing you...before getting to the end boss. This game does some good things, but adding filler in areas like this isn't one of them. Like geez, I hit level 12 about 40 hours ago can you just let me get to the final fight already!

You realize you can summon your allies anywere on the map, like up on the ledges with the enemies?

You can just turn invis and run to the stem.

Best option, IMO.
Or keep the group tight and use invulnerability sphere scrolls while you progress.
No need to complicate things.

this happend to me. luckily i picked up the emperor dudes body off the huge downstairs battle at the end since it wouldn't let me revive him. i dropped the body where the brain stem is then clicked on the blue revive thingy and it revived him and i was able to interact with the brain stem after
