I saved those guys and they didn't help me at all. Figures.
Did you let the girl Gnome run away with the Runpowder barrel in the Grymforge + freed the gnomes from Moonrise Tower in act 2?
Normally during that encounter if you accept to be sent to prison, the gnomes will intervene and permanently blind the Steel Watcher.
Damn. Maybe the GOG version isn't patched completely yet, because I did their quest in Grimforge, and I was still sent to prison.
They knew your true nature
I'll concede that I do not remember either of those things. Guess I missed them.
Apparently that's considered bad actions that get you thrown in jail.
I don't know if they were aggro without the deal, but I guess not. Anyway, there is at least one way out without consequences. In the rest of the adventure I never fought one of the constructs or visited their factory. So it is also possible to leave them completely alone.
