I Can't Use Any Parasites

Anytime I try to use one, it says "The parasite is stubborn - it refuses both to leave or allow itself to be used as you desire."

I'm sitting on three of these things and can't use any of them. I had no trouble on my first character, why am I suddenly unable to consume them?

I think you need to take more long rests to unlock em.

Nope, did 8 long rests (I ran out of food) and still can't use them.

Some of the characters refuse to use them. A lot of the characters actually. At camp you can persuade them to change this decision.

Are you trying to give one to Laezel for example? You said first character, so I assume you're trying to give them to a different character now?

Okay, I can finally use them.

Every article I could find online said you can use them as soon as you find them, but in reality you need to be visited by your guardian for the first time before you can use them.

Ohhhhhh, you started a new playthrough. I thought you were trying to give them to a different character other than your player character.

Yeah, you can only use the specimens after the first Guardian visit cut scene.
