Starting race, can someone please explain?
In the following Youtube video the guy says that a Drow is a bad choice for close combat since he lacks the weapon proficiency, but isn´t that something also given by the class you choose?

I play a Drow Paladin and have no problems with wielding most two handers.

Githyanki. If you're not first; you're last.

These videos are based on opinions.
Congratulations! You've found a bad one.

Just choose what you are connecting with.

That's not what he's saying. He's saying Drow weapon proficiency is negligible unless you're a caster. He even says that martial classes have their racial weapon proficiency.

Nonsense weapon proficiency comes from class. The only thing the race gives is unique bonuses listed in the character creator

If you want to min/max then do exactly what someone else is doing. If you want to play the game how you want then choose whatever.

Weapons are usually class based, so I just don´t see the point of stating that unless there is a reason I am not aware of.

BG3 is very popular and with that popularity comes a whole bunch of people writing articles and making videos for clickbait who have no idea how 5e works and have probably not even played the game. Half of it is probably AI generated.

Fextralife has definitely played the game, but they often rush to churn out videos in the small preview window they have before release. I wouldn't expect them to be great.

I ran into a "guide" a few days ago that recommended taking the Weapon Master feat on a Fighter instead of an ASI. The feat that gives you proficiency in four weapons. On a class that gets all weapon proficiencies at level 1.

He's just saying it's nothing special. Like if you wanted to min max a specific build

Personally, I like moving to the beat of my own drum. How about you?

My Drow pala wipes the floor in every encounter made bosses look like a joke

Race have no noticeable effect in terms of gameplay, just play whatever you want.

Ignore. Most of the Youtubers regarding BG3 have no effing clue what they are even talking about. Just like most of the reviewers.
Most of them did not even pass act 1 but are giving out tips and tricks.
