How to get Ethel’s Hair without breaking my oath?
I would like the +1 to an ability, but it seems to break my Paladin;s Oath if I let her live. Any workarounds other than paying the fee to the Oathbreaker?

You could try not taking her hair and sticking to your oath. The game is very clear that you have to actually, you know, follow the oath if you want to keep the powers.
Are you Order of the Ancients? Nope. Not really. Your oath is kinda...all about the natural order of things....Hags specifically ruin the natural order.

It'll also break your oath if you give Mayrina the wand as well.

If Vengeance, she's...A pretty bad person...And you're letting them go scott free, big no-no for Vengeance (I haven't tested this one so I'm just assuming).

Respec before Ethel fight? Complete fight, get hair, respec back to Paladin? 200 gold vs 1000?

Is the price of your HONOR so cheap?

If so, I've read that there's a guy who shows up in your camp who you can pay 1000 gold to return to your subclass.

If the penalty for a sin is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class.

Cinderpalm has a good point. If you don't feel like respec you can just pay gold to restore your oath.

Hello,
1. I tried with Order of the Ancients and it is a break of the oath to let Ethel live
2. A workaround is to try to initiate the dialog with the hag with a companion.
I used Astarion to obtain the item and the oath was ok.

It's 1000 gold, so yeah - it's that cheap. You heard correctly.

If your preferred course of action is to... ignore all moral and ethical concerns so long as it personally benefits you?
Then maybe you shouldn't be a Paladin in the first place? That's the opposite being a Paladin.

You can try to kill yourself or on death rolls to avoid the game putting your character in conversation with Ethel by making it select another character in your party.
This keeps your oath intact and gets you the +1 stat bonus.

That's the neat part! You don't!

On a more serious note, yeah just pay the skeleton to renew your oath.

Paladin is near unplayable due to the oathbreaking via hard coded and unexpected paths. You can get it for attacking goblins engaged in the act of eating a dwarf. You can get it for showing mercy to a monster that doesn't deserve it. You can get it for rolling a 1 in some conversations!

I keep reading in various places about how you just talk to her with a companion. Not sure what game they were playing, but that isn't possible. The game auto-selects your Tav no matter what you try to do.

I didn't get Ethel's Hair in my Paladin playthrough and I was able to plan my character without getting the +1 and without breaking my oath. I don't see what the issue is unless the Paladin class just isn't for you.

Paladin is one of the only role playing classes in the game. You hear it all the time in chat. Play vengeance so you do not have to role-play, i mean break your oath. I wish they had more role-play action rules and consequences.

I used to use warlock Wyll for that. I'd position MC pal further back and dialogue would default to closest.

Maybe if you boots of speed it out of fight into Ethel's lab, you can still get a companion to do it?
